Attempted Break In

Today around 3 pm Pepe and I left the apartment for a bit. A few minutes later Pepe retutned and found that someone had broken off a piece of metal in the lock and tried to kick the door in! To make things worse, the apartment's maintenance guy basically accused Pepe of kicking in the door in himself and making up the story. What an ass! Pepe just ( Read more... )

That sucks. At least you weren't home and opened the door to find out what was going on!

Should've asked the police to come and dust for prints. Might've taken a few hours, but might've caught the guy.

If it was on the outside of a door and there was no actual break in, it's pretty hard to do anything. A friend had his car broken into, and lost about 10 grand in stereo equipment and a bunch of other stuff (this was back when in-car DVD systems were first out). The perps left no prints in the car, and when Kyle suggested they dust the outside he was told that anyone could come up and touch your car's exterior, but that doesn't mean they actually broke in. I would assume the same applies to your home/apartment/etc door. Lame. :/

Y'all have renters insurance? Also, have you documented the expensive/valuable stuff that you have should someone succeed in breaking in?
