Uncharted lands

Hey hey hey, friends list. I'm sitting in the UCen now, as I was let out of my honors math seminar early and now have about 45 minutes until my first music appreciation lecture. I found a rather luxurious armchair to inhabit. To complete the setting I should probably buy a cup of coffee from the nearby coffee shop, but unfortunately I'm far too ( Read more... )

Some of us take note by hand, therefore eliminating the need to carry even undersized laptops around with us.

I too take handwritten notes in 3/4 of my classes. However, were you a student of computer science, you would find it difficult to program on a pad of paper. The built-in java compiler in my handwritten notebook is pretty slow, so I like having my marginally faster computer with me.

I'm with Sam, my laptop almost never leaves my apartment.

Most of my professors get the screaming habdabs about people taking out their laptops in class, but they're mostly English professors- they think it's powered by demons.

I personally do not take notes at all.

JESSICA! I WILL RESPOND TO THIS ENTRY IN ALL CAPS!

Okay, I lie.

I'm seriously considering getting one of those little laptops. I want to take notes on my laptop so desperately for organization's sake, but the battery only lasts for about 3 hours (and it seems that none of my lecture rooms have available outlets), and even though my current laptop is only medium sized (not a monstrosity like Sam's), it's still pretty painful to carry around with my textbooks and notebooks all day.

Ignore those fools who claim weakness on our parts; I'll bet they've never even attempted to carry around their laptops to and from class. >.>

On that note, why did you buy the RAM upgrade (and if I bought one, should I buy the upgrade, too?)

I bought the RAM upgrade because I'm incredibly picky about the speed of my computer, and because in the eventuality that I need to install another operating system that requires more memory to run properly, (Vista comes to mind,) 1.5 GB is a minimum for good performance.

If you're planning on keeping XP, you really won't need an upgrade unless you want to run several audio/visual intensive applications at once. Also if you do get it, you'll need to open up the back of your computer and replace the chip.

Well, my current laptop is Vista. Assuming I won't face compatability issues between the two, maybe I don't need the upgrade afterall, seeing as all I want to do is take notes (and browse the web).
