*nods* agreed love. I think we might even be better off replacing the truck with something in decent shape and with decent guts that can run on biodiesel. . . not that it's perfect, but in a lot of ways I mistrust the hybrid SUV's. . . so much plastic and harsh manufacturing. :(

*nods* yeah, the point being, replace it with *something* that is better when it dies. But you're right on the manufacturing issues.

I gotta ask, why are you two having this conversation on LJ? I'm having flashbacks to IM'ing friends down the hall in college!

Oh, and if we get a used Prius, there are companies that sell a plug-in conversion module for them . . . so you can plug em in at night to charge those batteries up. makes them closer (it is reported) to 100mpg.

Wow, that's fantastic!

Though there is still gas used in the creation of the energy that is powering the batteries, though I know that there have at least been some studies that said that was still preferable than vehicular gas use.

Right now, it's $30K on top of the cost of the car. I'd wait a year or two! (Hell, right now, _I_ can't even afford the car, but that's a rant for another day.)

I was at a friend's house and instead of normal light switches in their bathrooms, they had little timers on them. You could set it for 2 min, 5 min, 10 or 15min. It wouldn't work in all rooms, but I bet there are rooms where that would work very well.

I may try the canvas bag idea one day. I should probably learn to sew better though.

*nods* Yup.. I'm trying to just be more aware when I leave lights on, Im' getting better, just takes a little discipline. (Something like that might annoy me because if I ended up on the potty for a bit longer than intended, though pooping in the dark isn't "bad" it makes reading a challenge, which is my favorite method of killing time while "working through" issues.. (sorry that was kind of gross lol)).

The nice thing is it's rectangles, I'm not much of a seamstress, but I can sew squares and rectangles. And all that straps need to be is well sewed on heavy duty "tape" (the woven heavy cloth "ribbon" that you can buy)

We like plastic bags out here on the plains. When you pile up enough of them in the local landfills, they start looking like mountains ;)

I would very much like to learn how to make the canvas bags, but won't be here on Sunday. If you are willing to show me some other time (or just pass me the pattern), I would be very thankful!
I also feel that when it is time for a new vehicle I will replace my large SUV with a small hybrid (such as a Prius), or a biodiesel model. Of course, that will be dependent on what I can afford when the time comes.
Additionally, I would be happy to go in with you on a side of beef, or pork/lamb/goat, assuming I am still in the area when you choose to make the purchase. I agree wholeheartedly with the CSA idea and would also like to find a share wherever I live next. I miss my garden, and hope to get one going next year as well!
