Canon Personality: The primary thing to know about B is that he is a bona fide genius, albeit a peculiar one - at first glance, there’s just something a little bit off about him. His eccentric manner is heavily influenced by the fact that he has possessed the eyes of a shinigami since birth. The eyes of a shinigami, or death god, allow anyone who possesses them to view any live human’s name and natural life span. The ability to view life spans is the ability to view death, and B has been surrounded with reminders of death from the day he was born. B is a skilled mimic and actor, capable of maintaining a convincing long-term public persona as an “unprivate detective” named Rue Ryuzaki with ease. Under the guise of Ryuzaki, B acts much less intelligent than he actually is, “playing the fool,” in effect, in order to gather information, subtly manipulate other people, and set his plans into motion. Even outside of this act, B lies, frequently and with precise calculation, and will not hesitate to give misinformation if it suits his purpose - and it generally does.

Canon History: There are not many specific facts known about Beyond Birthday from the text of Another Note before the events of the story in question. What is known, however, is that both of his parents were killed when he was quite young - his father was murdered by a thug, his mother died in a train crash - and he was eventually brought to the Wammy’s House orphanage in Winchester, England, to participate in a rigorous detective training program as B - Backup for the genius detective L ( ... )

Timeline note: B was originally pulled from his dimension and brought to Disturbia on August 22, 2002, just as he was about to begin setting up the fourth and final “murder” scene; he is therefore pre-suicide attempt.

RP History: B spent nearly seven months in Disturbia - a strange, sprawling metropolis with an eerie subterranean counterpart, the Undercity. He woke in a mostly unremarkable apartment after a brief blackout period; the last thing B remembered before regaining consciousness in this new locale was walking into an apartment in Los Angeles where under the false persona of an “unprivate detective” by the name of Rue Ryuzaki, he’d set up a final stakeout to apprehend the criminal behind a series of bizarre, gruesome murders - an elaborate charade, given that B himself was the perpetrator of the series of murders ( ... )

Belphegor, meanwhile, had also developed a certain fixation with M, which included threatening to kill M and attacking him with knives. One incident left M badly injured, and after B stitched up the knife wound, he decided to provoke Belphegor into attacking [and killing] him. B believed himself to be expendable in the grand scheme of things; he had no hope of ever succeeding L, the one thing he’d spent so much of his life training for, so he thought he had no real purpose for existing. B believed his death could serve as a warning, a lesson for M not to underestimate Belphegor. He told M, just before Belphegor arrived to kill him: “Don't follow my rules. Don't follow my example. Learn from my mistakes.”

It wasn’t much of a fight, really. B had very little combat training, and up against a skilled assassin like Belphegor, he didn’t stand much of a chance. But B hadn’t intended to walk away from this fight anyway. Belphegor slit B’s throat on the Disturbia City beachfront, laughing as he watched B die.

Personality: Nina is a polite and refined young woman, surrounded by a elegant regal air even though it's been years since she's been considered royalty. While at first she may seem rather distant and almost aloof with others, mostly because her black wings were supposed to omen of doom in her kingdom and she found it easier to distance herself from everyone. However, she's very kind and warm to those she considers friends, standing up to protect them and even willing to sacrifice herself for those who are close to her, such as giving herself up to a local gang when they take her sister hostage For those who arouse her anger, she becomes absolutely cold and merciless, striking back at them with no mercy - such as when her sister was rescued, there was no hesitation on her part on striking down the gang leader with several thunder spells ( ... )

History: Nina was born as the eldest princess of Wyndia, the town of the Wing Clan. As to be expected, she lived a rather pleasant and carefree childhood in the castle with her younger sister, Mina, until she reached the age where all Fae children grew their wings. To her parents' horror, Nina's wings were not the usual white but instead black. It was said that if black-winged children born in the royal family, a great doom would occur, and so such children were usually put to death. However, her parents hushed up those who were aware of Nina's black wings, and told their kingdom Nina had died. In actuality, they had sent her to far-off HomeTown, where she was to study magic at the school located there ( ... )

Returning back to the castle and her group, Nina decided to hold off having the ceremony until the next day. However, during the middle of the night, she awoke to find the Mark missing. Realizing that only one other person could have taken the Mark, Mina; she chased her sister all the way to the tower where the ceremony was to be held but arrived there too late. Mina had already entered and sealed the doors, which would not open until the ceremony was complete, ignoring Nina's pleas to not undergo the ceremony. Stating that Ryu and everyone else still needed Nina as she is and promising that she'd never forget Nina, even as the Great Bird, Mina activated the Mark of the Wing and transformed into the Great Bird. Now finally able to enter the room, Nina vowed to not let her sister's sacrifice go to waste and that they would defeat St. Eva and his followers ( ... )

Sample log entry: Nina had asked her friends for a moment to be left alone, just her and the sleeping dragon that had been Ryu moments before. They’d filed away, although several of them paused, hesitating as if wanting to say something to her, but Nina simply shook her head. Getting the hint, they moved on, leaving her alone with the sleeping dragon under the sunny afternoon sky.

She felt anything but sunny at this moment, staring up at the massive dragon. Her vision begin to blur as she felt the tears rising to her eyes, collapsing to the ground on her knees, her shoulders shaking as she sobs silently into her hands. "Ryu..." she whispers out loud, "why did you leave me behind too? Why?" First Mina, now Ryu - would the rest of her friends leave her behind too, one by one, while she could only stand on by and watch helplessly?

With her hands covering her face, Nina doesn’t notice when her surroundings begin to shift, the giant sleeping dragon and beautiful sunny afternoon fading away and ( ... )
