I think this criticism is much more likely to come from people who are fans, though not exclusively so. The best source I can think of is Eileen on TOC, though if you could get Elkins out of her shell...
One area that's been in the news recently is her treatment of fat people, mainly Dudley. She ranted on her website about people's preoccupation with losing weight and looking thin, and someone wrote an article in the Daily Mail (not a left wing paper at all, BTW) accusing her of hypocrisy because of her treatment of fat characters. She then responded on her website, not very convincingly, IMO.
There was an article called "Harry Potter and the Closet Conservative" which generated a fair bit of discussion on HPFGU, I think about 4 years ago. I read it online so you can probably still get hold of it.
Personally, I find your posts on TOC a welcome counterbalance to the ones that spin ever more elaborate theories.
I will see if I can remember other stuff and find links when I have more time.

As for the feminist or '-ist' angle on HP, I've heard people talk about it, but haven't seen much substantive stuff written in the fandom (that's not saying much though, as I haven't dug very deep).
I do know someone very close to hand who is a feminist, psychologist and HP fan, so I guess I should ask her what she thinks...
I've been off of LJ for pretty much the whole summer, so I just saw this now.
Are you still looking for criticisms of HPFGU from the left? I was one of the people who felt that JKR was really overlooking women and girls, and I had some posts about this on HPFGU. I can find them for you, if you're still interested. I'm not too happy with how JKR presents Dudley as being fat because he's a pig, either, and may have also discussed that on HPFGU-- I'm not sure.
My comments about women were written after GOF. Since then, JKR has put in some stronger female characters, especially Tonks. Ginny has become a strong character, too, but she never strikes me as being a terribly believable character -- she's something of a "Mary Sue."
