A word on technique

A brief note on technique.

A razor is, in effect, a line. Possibly several parallel lines forming a plane, but when you get down to it, a line. We also, for simplicity, approximate a face and neck as a cube.

Yeah, right.

Your face is not a cube. It's a collection of compound curved surfaces. To make matters worse, beards have a distinct grain - a ( Read more... )

I am not sure if women are attracted to a clean shave, but at least some women appriciate it. (I have also heard rumors of some women who appriciate the fel of a well bearded man, but not had any confess to this in real life...). I know I like the way I look with a goatee (the five o'clock shadow look being impossible for blonde me), but I like my wife being willing to kiss me more, so I maintain a clean shave.

I think Drew's trying to discriminate between "women like it" and "Women will be drawn to it like moths to a flame". Certainly last week when he tried the Feather blades (probably coming up in the next installment) he had the smoothest cheeks I've ever seen him with, or at least comparable to when he was 18. They were attractive to *me*, but I'm his wife.I didn't see hordes of women who needed to be beaten off with a stick. :)

Yeah. Where are those women I need to beat off with a stick? Sheesh... talk about false advertising.

For me it's not even as much that smooth is dashingly attractive as that un-smooth gets negative attractiveness points.

The random directionality of the grain of my beard is one reason that I've stuck with an electric. The Norelco circular heads tend to deal with that reasonably well. I've started growing a beard (the neatly trimmed kind - no mad terrorist beards for me anymore) so that I can ignore the worst offending areas of my face. Plus, the beard looks pretty good on me (numerous women have complimented it).

My general experience is that in general American women find beards cuddly, stubble scratchy, and smooth shaves most visually appealing.
