Movie Review: Crash

So I saw David Cronenberg's Crash for the first time last night. It came out over 10 years ago, and if I remember correctly it created quite a stir for seemingly glorifying sexually deviant behavior. It is a slow film and I guess you have to be in the right mood, but I do find it interesting and worth a watch every now and then for it's haunting atmosphere. It does have some great scenes, even if the various sex couplings do get repetitive after a while. Probably one of my favourite Cronenberg films actually, although Videodrome remains my favourite.

LOL, I still remember the glaring look that the usherette gave to those of us walking into the auditorium to see this film at the cinema. It attracted a lot of the "this film is only for sick perverts" kind of media reaction on release. I loved when people were talking about the connection between sex and cars and David Cronenberg said in interviews something like "it's like these people have never heard of something called the 1950s" ha ha.

I don't remember what my initial reaction was on seeing this film but it has really stayed with me these 10 years and I feel compelled to rewatched regularly. I'm always intrigued by Cronenberg's work but this one is my absolute favorite.
