graduation--male vs. female

< Graduates should rise when the Alma Mater is played. While women leave their caps in place, men remove theirs for the Alma Mater and await the signal from the assistant marshals for their row to join the recessional. I guess I don't need to share, but that kinda disturbs me >.>

My only guess is it has to do with something that started when the school was first established. I know for centuries women were not to show their heads at religious services, and UT was originally a private university for white men (a.k.a. Catholics, etc.). Since they are private, the school doesn't need to follow all of the rules set out by the state, etc.

Definately something to look into though. This is just a guess >.

I say that when we have that meeting about graduation ceremony the friday before, we raise our hand and ask.

I don't care, but I'm taking mine off.

And actually, it used to be that no one took their hats off during religious ceremonies, considering it disrespectful.
