Not got to the 'huffing and puffing' classes yet, they are in October. I don't think we have stools or benches at that hospital, or anything fancy like that but I know we will be encouraged to use the bed, birthing ball or other half to lean on in whatever position works. Midwives are trying to get women off their backs now as it just does not make sense unless there is a definite medical reason, such as continued monitoring or a forceps delivery.
My mother taught me one very valuable lesson. If you get on with the health staff, your stay will be alot easier. I will make them laugh apparently as I have a sense of humour about the whole thing, which is why she is convinced I will be fine.
So much for the "keeping the same midwife" idea?.. the medical organisation never ceases to amaze me.. really it does't:D.. Just don't allow the medical profession to bully you into what is easy for them, but not necessarily easy for you.. Drs are far to happy to make their own lives easy at the expense of your comfortzones. conversely of course, preganacy tends to be easier and less complicated if the mother is more comfortable and relaxed. :/
I have been informed by a few mothers that birthing stools are really useful because you have gravity helping and you can get into a position which is most beneficial for maximum muscle advantage. And is easily accessible if you want to do the pacing thing during the labor process.
Well they can't help it if a midwife decides to change her hours and therefore is moved to another location to facilitate that. Out of their hands I think, working where I do I'm not too surprised. Besides, the midwifes in the community do not work at the hospital so I will be seeing someone different on the big day anyway
