LJ fodder!!

My mind is blank.

I'm thinking of generating controversial topics such as "Big Brother Rocks" and "I love BushBlairHoward" and "Nose hair: the longer the better".

I need LJ fodder - this is getting pathetic.

I'm taking requests.

Suggest some correlation between e.g. penis size and personality.

Oooh, good one. Though I'll need researchers out there in the fields.

Errr - woah there. This falls in the too much information category. . .

Of course, there is the perceived idea that men who penis envy try and buy longer cars to compensate that. That type of behaviour is obnoxious.

Maybe make a post requesting people write spammy emails!

You choose the best, and then post it on your journal. Get your friends to post it on their journal and so on and so on. See how long it lasts before you get white powder in the mail, or something something.

:) I think I understand. . .I'm supposed to get the spammy emails? I get enough of those! :):)

Can the white powder be icing sugar? *obviously craving something sweet*

Well, I have two questions more than a request since its political season out here.

I know that Australia has mandatory voting. Has that ever been seen as a problem or do people just accept it? And what excuses are acceptable for not voting?

I have to say that I'm not myself eligible to vote - being permanent resident and all, and not a citizen, yet.

But from my heated discussion with fellow colleague, apparently, compulsory voting here is full-on. If your name is on the electoral roll, and you don't vote, the sheriff can/may be out looking for you soon. Last time I heard, if you don't actually go and get your name on the electoral roll (with an excuse like whoops I forgot), then it may be some time before they find your tracks, perhaps from the tax office.

But the thing that I really don't get is that apparently, you do not need any form of identification when you rock up to vote. No drivers licence, nothing. If someone knows your full name and electoral list you're on, they can potentially rock on up, "pretend" to be you and vote. Of course, then they have to make tracks and go vote for themselves - ha!

Sorry to chip in but i worked for the electoral commission last electon and i have voted a few times.
True - you don't need ID to vote. But it can be argued this is more democratic as if you did need ID it would tend to discriminate against those groups who are less likely to have acceptable ID- ie the homeless etc.
False about the sheriff and stuff, if you don't vote about all you get is a fine in the mail, $25 (last election anyhow) hehe its more for not voting in council elections! And there are a raft of acceptable excuses, its just a case of whether it washes with the dude in your area who gets to make the decision.

Interesting. One the one hand, I think that a system like that would be exactly what we need to get people off their asses and voting. But politically, I am just not comfortable with my government trying to compel me to vote.
