I agree there is a certain amount of self reliance in any educational system. Here's the thing though. You were a National Honor Society student but, you don't have to be that smart to vote.

I know. I know.
I'm just trying to find a thought to battle the crushing despair I feel when I read stuff like this. Thinking about the Fox News Narrative makes me have to refill my Nexium prescription. And this goes right along with that agenda. Forget the truth, let's create a narrative that tells the story we want.
In responce to Dana: There's hope if you are smart enough to question what is being said even if only to yourself. Unfortunately there are a lot of stupid and/or oblivious people out there.
If it's one thing i can say about texas...a large portion of the populace is willfully ignorant, and just believes what they want anyway.
But i have hope...becuase i have noticed a interesting trend in the area i live in work. And that is that texas is slowly having it conservative pants loosened and may well be getting hit with it's own belt. In the last few months i have met more people that have moved here from california (which is a tad liberal i hear) that have moved here for jobs...three where teachers. Now while a teacher can't change whats in the textbook...they can opt to teach the parts left out, and even skip the parts that are false.
In the end...we have to rely on the teachers toconvey the truth.
but...since our education system is so...crappy...theres still the hurdle of getting the kids to pay attention, and then retain what thier taught...and like i said, texas is willfully ignorant.
