yeah i get really bothered when i read articles that say stuff like "how can people say women are unfunny when there's someone like sarah silverman out there?" it really pisses me off. i feel like she's just saying these things for shock value so she can say "ooh i'm a woman and a jew so i can make all kinds of racist sexist comments because of my background!" i don't like her at all. there are plenty of funnier women comedians out there.

I think that a lot of the funny women comedians are also not considered attractive (or young) and so they don't get the kind of exposure that someone with a cute face like Sarah Silverman has.

The post was brought on by me catching the first couple minutes of the show after South Park went off and also the preview for an episode where she was using abortion as birth control and it really offended me! I don't think it is funny to brag about your three abortions or to treat them like they're nothing important. A)It isn't funny and B)That isn't the kind of exposure that pro-choice needs - the stereotype that women use abortion as their birth control because they're stupid whores.

i don't think it's funny either. to put it in reverse, if there were a male comedian that said the same things she said, i don't think many people would find it funny or charming. she was interviewed on "fresh air" on NPR yesterday and terri gross was saying how her humor was satirical but i still don't think that means she can talk about abortion and racism the way that she does.

I only saw one episode, like a year ago, but I kinda liked it ^_^* I feel like the character she plays on the show is supposed to be an idiot and you're supposed to completely disagree with everything she says, unlike Mencia -- I just don't know WHAT he's going for.

It struck me that she could be a funny comic if she stopped making the lowest-common-denominator sexist and racist jokes. Unlike Mr Mencia, who's got nothin'.

I've been told, when I brought it up on gaia, that her standup is funny. Of course I was also told the same thing about Mencia and I know his standup isn't funny.

Well obviously a lot of people DO find it funny. One can only surmise that humour is subjective. That, or a lot of people are just WRONG.

The people who like the standup also don't like the show. It was kinda agreed upon that comedians shouldn't have their own shows. XD
