I wrote a little project this evening: HERE (warning, obnoxious loud Flash app).

It is a fairly authentic reproduction of the ZX spectrum loading sound, based on a disassembly of the ZX Spectrum ROM and the Wikipedia article. It encodes 0s and 1s (in this case, random data) using pulse width modulation, which for this application is equivalent to ( Read more... )

Boing Boing linked to a cool photo gallery from WSDOT's sign shop and it got me thinking about Humanist and Grotesque typefaces again. I find typography fascinating--I enjoyed the documentary Helvetica a few months ago, by the way, which gave me new-found appreciation for the face--and it got me browsing Wikipedia to learn about the new ( Read more... )
