Serial adder.

I joined especially to post about one user. serialadderinfo added me as a friend a while ago, along with adding some 700 other users. This person says he uses some sort of code (I know little of that stuff) to randomly collect usernames from the Recent entries list and add them. On his Info page and in his journal, this person quotes the TOS repeatedly, boasting ( Read more... )

I mean, if someone walks up to you in the street, gives you a flower, you might ask them why.

Shitty analogy. Accepting the flower requires action on your part. Being friended does not.

Well. Being someone's Friend has the appearance of me being active in the friendship. Although it doesn't apply to lj friends and that's why I think the Friends/Trusted lists would be a good idea.

I don't really know how to respond to this, because you're already fully aware that "friend" on LJ isn't a symmetrical relation.

You even show some indication in the entry that you know you should just get over it, so... what's stopping you?

I mean the word itself. Friend. The first association I still have with the word is a mutual relationship.

You even show some indication in the entry that you know you should just get over it, so... what's stopping you?

If I did, I would have to find another hobby :D. No, seriously, I am quite over it. I wrote here to get opinions on the incident. Something resembling discussion, maybe. This is because most of my friends aren't updating their journals, and I've been trying to find nice communities.

Maybe there's one called care_bears out there. That might suit me better...

This reminds me of a joke that happened last year for April Fools, when there was another serial adder made just to cheese people off.

Honestly, I don't see any harm the person just having you +friended. If there is something offensive about it, it'd probably be best to just 'ban_set' him in your info, like it says on the main page for the journal. If you block off anonymous comments and stuff and ban the user, then you shouldn't have trouble from them at all, in my opinion.

Personally, I find the hoo-har over serial adders to be a big deal over nothing.

there's no harm for the person to friend you i suppose, i mean some people just want to write what they want, you know, their mind on blogs, but just gotta change the setting to Friend or something, otherwise if that person is still annoying you in some way, just block him/her... that's the thing you have to look forward to internet...

I continue to be amazed by people who somehow find it offensive to be added to someone's friend list.
