two things today.

first on the agenda, kw34hd1 was suspended permanently due to an "offensive" icon used on bradfitz's relatively new project, OpenID. i'll let sneak's explain since he knows the situation better:

the reasoning being this: if you break the TOS (such as with a prohibited user icon), are initially suspended, comply with their request to modify the ( Read more... )

Don't worry, I'm here... they only took 2/3 of my usernames.

That's one of the least offensive user pic's I've come across, and is certainly less offensive and annoying than them silly bouncy tits that were running around here last year - they were really annoying!

exactly. if they're going to hit people for offensive usericons then the furry and white power communities both will suffer massive casualties.

Holy cow, a post in abuse_lj_abuse with legitimate complaints. What the fuck.

Also, orders of no contact do carry over. In most cases, they give them out specifically because multiple accounts were used because if someone was only using one account to harass you they just go "just ban them, it's not our problem lol". That's why when I got banned from indiefucks, nothing happened, but when 2justin got banned, I got a long and poorly thought out email in legalese. But I was pretty sure they only acted on legitimately confirmed evidence.

I don't have anything useful to add, but I do agree that it doesn't make much sense to suspend someone for violating the ToS of one service while using another.

another service which apparently has no ToS.

OpenID is a protocol, not a service.

Using an OpenID on livejournal is, according to the abuse team, the same as using a livejournal user account on livejournal. That's not what the TOS reads, but that's what they believe.

Regardless, it's a simple matter of playing by the rules of the site on which you're participating. It just wasn't clear until the time I was suspended that the abuse team applies the TOS to OpenIDs as well.

this needs to be made much clearer in the ToS in that case.
