Like most people, my husband has spell check on his computer. It's one click. But at least a dozen times a day, he asks me how to spell something. I'm terrible at multitasking, so I have to stop what I'm doing and mentally switch gears to actually think about how to spell something and then spell it out-loud. Apparently today, he asked me one ( Read more... )

Heh. In general, I am better at spelling than he is, but it just makes more sense to me to be sure and use the resources on his computer. They are much more accurate and far less snotty. ;D

Heh. I think my darling would feel for you since I shamelessly use him as an alternative for Google, especially when I'm busy and merely curious about something -- he can usually answer me faster than I can find the correct page myself and his answer shall most often be in a concentrated form and contain just enough for my purposes without me needing to read five pages of Wikipedia to get all the points... and this often holds even when he doesn't know the answer off the top of his head, since his google-fu is much stronger than mine. It annoys him to no end, though ;) He has never thought to resort to Snape's kind of answers yet, though! Better not tell him about this so he won't get any ideas...

I started wondering aloud, without directly asking, and my partner's desperate need to KNOW ALL THE THINGS would drive him to look it up anyway. I could sense him trying not to look it up, but I could always feel the glare the moment he gave in. It was pretty funny. XD

This often works too :) Even for things where I don't even come to think that the answer actually might be found online at all, or at least from anywhere I would have access to. I make a small remark and five minutes later I may very well know everything relevant there is to know about the subject without moving a finger, sometimes with particularly helpful links attached ^.^

Heh. He doesn't tend to ask me anything that I would need to look up. That he always does himself. I'm not sure if he just has an exaggerated degree of confidence in my spelling ability or what exactly, but that is the one thing he always asks. And it's usually for client letters, so accuracy would seem to be important. I know if I had doubts about my spelling, I'd look it up. So perhaps he knows I'd do it, too. He's never been given a Snape kind of answer before, but just the way he worded the question made it impossible for me to resist. ;D

For Halloween, the office dressed up as different sorts of bees: a worker bee, a queen bee, a carpenter bee. I was the Spelling Bee, so there's that. You can only imagine the images running through my head between your exchange and my office mates. Neville would never have survived Snape the Spelling Bee (the Killer Bee?) in his grandmother's clothes.

OMG, those would have been fabulous costumes! Your office sounds waaaaay more fun than mine would have been. Though to be fair, I'd have likely been a pretty big party pooper myself at times. ;D

I have a friend who used to call me on the phone to ask me to confirm the spelling of words or to tell her the titles of movies we had likely both seen as we have similar tastes ... I often just used google to answer her questions. And then we'd spend another hour just talking. I think she was lonely and looking for an excuse to chat. Maybe hubby misses your presence while you're writing. :)

*Nods* I know some people who do this as well. Al works a LOT, so it's usually me who has to pull him away from something so we can have some downtime together. With this, I just think he has an exaggerated degree of confidence in my spelling. It's flattering, I suppose. But I'd still trust spell check. ;D
