01. Been rewatching Doctor Who with my roommate, who has only ever seen the most recent series, with Eleven and Amy Pond. We just wrapped up Nine last night and we're finally on Ten and I am v. excited about it. I had almost forgotten how much I loved Rose. And Captain Jack. &hearts I'm wondering if I'll be able to get through "Doomsday" ( Read more... )

I'm going to get a Droid phone this weekend! I can't wait. I'm so tired of my blackberry. Thing is slow as molasses.

Awesome! I wanted to get the new Motorola Droid, but it's out of stock EVERYWHERE so I just caved and bought the old model. I still love it though.

3. I dunno, but all three of those books are on my to-read list. I'm assuming I'll like the Chaon because I really liked his first, and Zeitoun just looks fascinating.

I haven't read anything by Chaon except a short story in a McSweeney's journal that scared the shit out of me haha after that I knew I had to read more!

I've read nothing but good reviews about Zeitoun, and I haven't read anything by Dave Eggers since Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, so that one's been on my to-read list for a while.

I didn't really like Heartbreaking Work when I first tried to read it a billion years ago, but at the time it was the fourth book that I picked up and was reading congruently, so that might have been the problem. I plan on trying again soon. But the overwhelming positive response from Zeitoun and the one before lead me to believe his writing has gotten a little more accessible (less indulgent) than it used to be. I dunno. I'll be very interested in reading your review.

You Remind Me of Me was a really interesting, thoughtful, thought-provoking book for me. It reminded me of my family a bit in places, oddly enough. Do you remember which Chaon short you read? I do love the McSweeneys. Though most of the time I mention it to someone who doesn't already know what it is, they think I've said "mixed weenies." Weird people.

I'm pretty sure the short story was called "The Bees" which is in this book http://www.amazon.com/McSweeneys-Mammoth-Treasury-Thrilling-Tales/dp/140003339X although I read it in "The Better of McSweeney's Volume 1." I love McSweeney's, it's one of my favorite things in the world to go on that site and buy up a bunch of old quarterlies for next to nothing.

I think people who get through "Doomsday" without bawling are strange. If they exist at all. They might be an urban legend.

I kind of feel like I didn't enjoy the last 200 pages or so of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest as much as I could have because I KEPT WAITING FOR SOMETHING TERRIBLE TO HAPPEN :D Not that I WANTED something terrible to happen, of course, but everything was actually working out for them and I didn't trust any of it til I got to the very end :D

I really really really want to read The Passage. One of my co-workers is reading it at the moment and I'm waiting for her to finish so I can borrow hers :D

Wasn't Mad Men AWESOME? I mean, it always is, but omg. Don and Lane bonding! :D I died. And Joan is just too awesome to be real, always.

Haha I love your icon.

And yeah Doomsday without crying might be impossible. It's like the saddest episode of TV ever, along with that episode of Buffy when her mom died and the episode when Charlie dies on Lost!

Haha yeah I actually enjoyed the last 200 pages because things were finally happening!! So much of that book dragged on for me, with all the Swedish government stuff that when they finally got to the trial and everything worked out I was like YAY FINALLY!

Mad Men definitely was awesome! And now that whats-her-face has cancer, what will Don do?? It's his only happy place! I thought for sure they were gonna do it haha but I guess she's the only one that remains unsexed by The Great Don Draper.

:D I thought you might appreciate it :D

Exactly! People who don't cry during those episodes have no soul.

lol yeah, I definitely enjoyed the book a lot more once Lisbeth actually got to do something again and it wasn't just "let me tell you about politics in Sweden that happened a long time ago" anymore :D But I just didn't trust that everything would, for once, just WORK OUT PERFECTLY :D

Haha yeah, I thought they might hook up, too, but I think I like it better this way. Can't wait to see how this effects him. Poor guy (kind of).

I am dying to read The Passage. I have read Await Your Reply-I figured out the twist pretty early on(and I never do that) but I enjoyed reading it anyway. And I have Paper Hearts in my netflix queue, so I'm glad to hear a good review :)

I don't really know anything about Await Your Reply, I just read good reviews and thought I'd try it out!

Await Your Reply is really, really good. Very twisty and you'll be all :O when you piece everything together.

The girl playing Holly looks like an extra from Buffy with the "vamp" face. Also, Eric continues to be a BAMF. Even when macking on another guy.

Awesome!! I've only read one thing by Dan Chaon, a short story that had me freaked out for days. I figured if he's capable of that in only a few pages his novels must be awesome.

LOLOL you are right!!!!!!!!! Holly was so scary! And yeah seriously Eric = HBIC.
