One of my favorite lines in the book is after Ron has come back, and he tells Harry that Dumbledore must have left him the deluminator because he always knew he'd leave them, and Harry says, "No, it's that he knew you'd always want to come back." It's such a sweet line, and in the movie Ron says it about himself, which didn't have the same impact.
THIS. EXACTLY. That's one of my favorite lines in the whole series, actually, and the way Harry says it as encouragement to Ron kind of sealed the deal that he forgave him and was happy he was back. The Harry/Ron friendship in the movies is always handled so weirdly, but it was vastly improved upon this time around, especially with that scene in the beginning when Ron encourages Harry to stay for the wedding.
Yeah I really liked that scene in the beginning, that was when I first perked up and noticed that Rupert Grint was ~*Acting*~ and not just making dopey faces and saying "Bloody Hell" lol not that I don't love him no matter what he does.
But I agree, just letting Harry say that line would have been perfect. Sigh.
I agree with you for the most part on everything, especially that the should have had that "No, it's that he knew you'd always want to come back" part in. The one bit I disagree with is the dance scene. I thought it was awkward... it was more like watching Dan and Emma dancing and then they put it in the movie instead of a scripted thing for Harry and Hermione to do. IDK... I wasn't a big fan of that. It has always seemed to me that Yates & Kloves would prefer that Harry/Hermione happened instead of Hermione/Ron and this was like their one last hurrah before they had to get back to what the books really say. A lot of people I know that watch the movies but don't read the books (because they're crazy people) think that Harry and Hermione are going to get together and it's because of things like that scene. So it sort of bothered me a little, I guess. It was nice to see Harry trying to cheer Hermione up though... *shrugs*
I agree with this so much, especially after hearing that there was a scene that got cut that was basically a sweet/tender thing between Ron and Hermione that they took out because the tone was too upbeat. Uhh, okay. I liked the dance scene, but I do agree that it felt more like Dan and Emma goofing around than anything those characters would do.
“There was a scene we shot up in Scotland; it’s a scene where Ron is showing Hermione how to throw a stone on a lake, how to spin a stone on the lake, and Hermione is being really girly about it. She’s got a really rubbish throw, and she has to insist that Ron show her how to spin the stone to sort of entice tactility and physical contact, and it’s a really funny, tender and moving scene,” Yates described. “They’re both very funny in it, but it ended up on the DVD because the overall tone of our film, as you know, is quite intense.”
Like, I just don't understand why that was cut. It sounds adorable and... do they want people who don't read the books to actually know that Ron and Hermione like each other? LOL.
I pretty much agree with everything you said. Overall I thought the movie was great, and only wished it could've also included the things they left out that you mentioned.
yess i've been waiting for you to post this for days haha. i agree with you on everything!
- I'm glad they cut the fight between Harry and Lupin. That always made me sad. me too. i don't like reading that part in the book so i'm glad i didn't have to see it LOL
everything the twins said/did was pure gold. i was so happy when they included the "Wow, we're identical!" part because for some reason that line made me lose my shit in the books. ♥♥♥
i have so much love for daniel right now and what he's done with harry in this movie. his acting was just out of control in this one and it just makes my heart look like ♥. esp when ron comes back and hermione is like "HARRY WHERE IS MY WAND?" and he's like "UMMM IDK..." hahaha omg. dan radical. <3
such a good movie. it was so perfect. the second one is going to actually explode the world.
LOL I'm glad all the twins' stuff was in there, and that thing in the kitchen with George and the toothbrush in his ear was SO FUNNY hahaha omg.
I agree about DanRad, he is so precious. In the old movies his acing skillz always left me a little...wanting. But now you can tell he's got a real handle on this, and he knows what he's doing. Really it's all 3 of them, they've gotten so much better! HAHAHA Hermione demanding her wand was amazing!!!
LOLOL I agree, the world and my heart/brain are going to explode in the last one. I fully intend to bawl throughout the entire thing.
I'm going to see it tomorrow night, so I only read the bits that you wished they would have included. My new fella has read & seen ALL the books & movies and I'm super-psyched about that fact. Not often you find a man in my preferred age range who is so acceptably modern geek. :D
See also, we should hang out. I am a lazy hermit & apologize for being so!
Haha, yeah I work quickly - didn't necessarily mean to! Interesting story, for sure. And I definitely still want to learn how to knit. We should coordinate some nights. There is a small Farmer's Market at the Piazza near my house every Saturday (I guess until it gets cold) and one of the stands sells yarn. Not a huge selection, but the whole area is nice that time on Saturdays (10-2) if you're ever around there. Brunch!
I'm definitely excited for the movie. I'm even more excited for Part II which I know will make me cry like a baby.
