I absolutely loved this one, for all the reasons you mentioned.

I noticed a lot of little details that were from the book were in the film, but weren't actually mentioned out loud (Mad Eye's eye in Umbridge's door, Lily and James' grave having "the last enemy that shall be defeated is death" on it, more I can't remember right now), so I wonder if it was just an homage to those of us that have stuck with it or might show up in deleted scenes.

Did you tear up any at Dobby's death? Be honest now. ;) I was completely taken aback by Hedwig's demise, but I like how they worked that into the DE's figuring out which was the real Harry.

Most times after a Potter flick, I want to strangle Steve Kloves for one reason or another. I totally felt like hugging him when the credits started to roll for this one. Can't wait for Part 2.

My husband & I took the day off after the release of the 6th movie, and there is a picture of me at lunch with balled fists screaming "KLOOOOOOOOOOVES!!!!!" at the sky. This movie did not have that effect. I was quite pleased! In fact the thing that annoyed me most of the whole thing is NO ONE BUILDS HOUSES OR BURIES PEOPLE IN BEACH SAND
NO ONE
NOT EVEN WIZARDS

Hahahaha I was thinking the same thing about the sand.

Know what else bothered me? I guess that Weasleys just magically rebuilt their whole house after they inexplicably burned it down in the last movie. OH RIGHT. RIGHT.

I also noticed all those little things and loved that they didn't overtly point them all out. I love it.

And yes I teared up at Dobby's death! Him standing there on the sand all hunched over was what did it for me ;_; omg. I'm almost glad they left the gravestone out because in the book that is the moment that tips me from being choked up to flat out crying LOL.

I agree about Kloves, apparently he finally figured it out! I noticed JKR was listed as a producer on this one, I wonder if she had more input than usual since she's not as busy anymore and/or trying to hide the ending haha.

I was really disappointed they didn't include the scene at the beginning with Dudley and Harry. It would have wrapped that up nicely.

I'm bummed they didn't have the sign outside Harry's house in Godric's Hollow with the messages people wrote him, like "Good luck Harry, wherever you are!" I always loved that.

I agree completely! I wish they would have kept that.

The last movie will be amazing!

Seeing how well they did this first half gives me every confidence that the last movie is going to be A-MAY-ZING.

I wish that the CGI was better and that the Dobby scene was not quite so drawn out because I was all, "HARRY, HARRY WHY ARE YOU HOLDING THAT WEIRD RUBBER THING, YOU ARE GOING TO GET A DISEASE, OH HARRY PUT IT DOWN," instead of being sad sad sad like I was reading.

Haha aw I thought the CGI looked better than the second movie at least!!

My problem with that scene was that Harry said he wanted to bury Dobby like IMMEDIATELY and didn't even give it time to sink in or anything.

I don't even know, but I think it's slowly killing me. I really wanted to see it opening night and almost had my mom convinced (lol she got the money), but alas. I am, however, counting down the days until I can see it.

I haven't re-read Deathly Hallows yet since I read it in 2007 so I can't criticize the movie. I really, really loved it though! Best of the franchise so far in my opinion. What little I do remember, they kept in and worked it in the film in a good way. I play to see it again this Friday.

Having just finished rereading it less than 2 weeks ago, I remembered all the little details and was STILL really happy with it. Finally, a movie that follows the book! I can't wait to see it a 3rd time haha.
