well, despite my not-quite-sherlock-holmes deduction abilities, i was able to figure that out; mainly because julie said that's what they did. but what i was asking is HOW did they sell out? what did they do wrong?
besides about 5 years ago when the white stripes did like a thousand promos for MTV, that is.
the white stripes i can handle, because though they are on mtv all the time, they didn't forget their roots as incestuous hillbillies from tennessee. however, their new single sounds NOTHING like their old stuff. jack sings entirely in a falsetto and the tune is completely unoriginal. that's what makes me mad about them.
rogue wave on the other hand, who i found early in their career, is on the napoleon dynamite soundtrack. the shins, iron and wine, and postal service met their demise on the garden state soundtrack.
this is a matter of opinion john, don't take it away from me.
i really dont see why as soon as a band signs with a bigger label or does a track for a movie, they "sold out" and people hate them. "but... but the music changes!!!" yea, i know. music changes in the first place. it evolves, groups explore music, they grow. thats the point of music. if a band sounded exactly the same forever and ever, we would get bored of them. sure, a lot of times the change is bad. but a lot of the time the change is good. look at blink 182. now, know as a preface that i dont care at all if you like them or not. on their earlier albums, they sounded like an average garage band. then they got signed. they grew. now they sound mature, and in my humble opinion, 100 times better. and maybe the "new, bad" sound appeals to more people. and really, at the risk of sounding like a corporate capitalist, is there anything wrong with money? seriously! would you really care if your music got out there to more people, and in the process, you made a buck? i remember, julie, a conversation we once had. you said something about
( ... )
well, frankly, i don't care what you think. i stated before that this was a matter of opinion, my opinion, hence i wrote it i my journal. i'm not a capitalist. i've seen my whole family be happy doing what they love to do without making any money. artists do that. however, if my dad all of a sudden turned into that whore thomas kincade, he'd make tons of money. but he's not going to do that. it's just how i grew up. we're just different and i like it that way. and, i don't know what your talking about with that hybrid car thing, brady. i remember talking briefly about that, but that wasn't the point i was getting across. so, i could care less about how wrong you think i am. there's no wrong in this. i don't believe in god, i support gay marriage, i like communism, and i believe that bands can sell out. so there it is.
julie, nobody said you had to care what they think.
nobody said that there was a "wrong" in this, and nobody said anything about your political and religious beliefs. this has nothing to do with that.
also, i'm not saying you're wrong, but how is thomas kincade a whore?
His goal as an artist is to touch people of all faiths, to bring peace and joy into their lives through the images he creates. The letters he receives every day testify to the fact that he is achieving this goal.
john, thomas kincade doesn't even paint the things that he recieves letters for anymore. that's why he has a legion of slaves stamping a computerized signature on each print.
well i didn't know that he did paint requests at one point.
i still don't understand how he's a whore.
my comment was completely unbiased and neutral, all i wanted was your opinion. the "legion of slaves" not only are paid well over minimum wage, but they have nothing to do with thomas kincade and his being a whore.
