It was called something like "family matters." but i'm not sure if that's right either!
This episode just feels like the writer did a terrible job of figuring out all the details and making sure stuff worked. It's a little disappointing, especially with the lack of Sam. At least he got to crack the case so he did something a little bit important.
Also I agree with your analysis. I was sitting there going "Um, how do they know how to read, how have they stayed alive long enough to actually do the things they're doing and why aren't they just... dead?"
I totally agree about Dean; something's off. He comes back as the same old guy, and now he's all openly affected by it? Also, I dunno if this felt strange to anyone else, but why's he talking so much about it all of a sudden? I mean, he just had a good cry over it in the last episode and now he goes and opens up again? Without even being asked or pushed by Sam to do so? That doesn't seem like something the Dean we know would do. I dunno. *shrugs*
