Jason's grandmother had a cheap funeral for $8k in 2007. In 2011, my father-in-law's funeral was over $11k, and that was with a cash discount. It's a major expense to bury people these days.

It's understandable to be tired and cranky... a lot of administrivia and spending money and not-in-your-own bed. However sometimes I think the world gives us these things as a means of getting us through the loss.

Shepherd's pie is the bomb especially when you've been out in the wind. We did a few cold-weather hikes in recent years and that's my go-to afterwards.

Glad at least you got to celebrate Christmas with your sister.
