* John Simm was very odd and very good. I loved his energy, it was much different from the Mr. Saxon promos from before. It was also nice how the trademark Master things like the laughter came through, it must have been much more powerful for those who grew up on the old series, but it also wasn't awkward or bad or anything, it fit. He also seems like a nice young man, so his nice looks really balance out The Master's personality. I think he'll be great.

He was possibly overcamp and he didn't have a beard. But he could be good. He was perhaps a little too manic (more pantomine villan then Moriarty esque super villan but once we see him kill folk it should be fine I am sure) ;)

How they explained it in Confidential was that he was hyper and jumpy because in the new canon Time Lords get hyper and jumpy after regenerating. With The Master's regeneration paralleling The Doctor's in every sense so far (same posture, same place, same "new [body part]" bit), his behaviour is the same as well. So I believe he will not be like this in the upcoming episodes.

The Master needs the Goatee. lexpendragon June 18 2007, 14:11:37 UTC
And the preview shows him quoting The Doctor's introduction to Rose.

John Simm would be strange with a goatee. adamdobay June 18 2007, 14:24:44 UTC
Oh yes I spotted that, it was real fun.
