As far as I'm concerned, membership in a political party (especially one of the Totalitarian Two) is a mark against a candidate for any office. When a regular person professes to being a Republicrat of some sort, I'll have some issues with that decision, sure. Haha, nope. I used to think I would vote for a woman or an ethnic minority regardless of their qualifications, because I thought it would break some kind of barrier. Then I got to thinking about September 11 this summer, and how utterly unsuccesful it was as an attack. That's when I realized: symbolic victories don't mean shit. Obama being elected won't change the condition of black people in the US or anywhere else. What it will do is give people another reason to point at them and say, "See? If you'd worked harder, you could have done that."

Erg, yeah, not a fan of Giuliani.

Also, Kennedy is an interesting example because, to my knowledge, we haven't had a Catholic president since. I guess you could attribute Keating's governorship to that door being opened . . .
