The internet doesn't go out when the power does...

I have to be here to shut down the freezer and refrigerators and start them back up while they switch to backup power, and then again this afternoon when they put the toys away. I had planned to do this and work in the intervening time. ( Read more... )

That sucks! I'm sorry.

Actually, why is this your life? Shouldn't they have a full time paid staff member to deal with the lab equipment? What's their plan for when you graduate? (Or is the plan to never let you graduate?)

Some labs do have a more staff. They mix media, handle the ordering, and do all sorts of nifty things. There is no money for that right now though. I have no idea what they are going to do when I graduate. No idea at all. I am, however, considering changing my cell phone number when I finish.

Fair enough. Their problem once you're gone. I hope it features prominently on your CV under "Hire me, I'm amazing, and full of both practical and book knowledge, and a I'm workaholic."

How annoying. Don't they realize that people are working in your building? Ugh.

Oddly enough, not really. First of all, they don't realize people work every day. Second, they think that if we aren't there, nothing needs to be on. Third, they don't understand that a lot of the equipment has a complicated shutdown procedure. It took like three months of emailing to get this across.

Btw, they finally just called it off. So, waste of time AND we get to do this all over again.
