It's finally March. Checking in.

For the shortest month of the year, February sure sucked. I must apologize for my general absence. It turns out that I did not have the stomach flu. I had some sort of bacterial infection. After my brief flirtation with wellness, I took a turn for the worse. I'm pretty sure I was hallucinating for a day or two in the middle there.  My roommate said

Wow. I can picture how awful you've been feeling. But I can't imagine it going on that long - I've always had jungle-strength antibiotics within a couple days of contracting jungle bugs.

And wow, time to beat the other grad student over the head repeatedly.

I'm sorry you can't be there to celebrate with your family.

It's kinda sunshine and daisies for me. My squatter has moved, but I will be up all night grading. So I at least have daisies, if not the sunshine. Maybe someone else has the sunshine?

There is a huge norovirus outbreak here, so they assumed it was that. When I just got worse, they finally ran some tests. I haven't felt that bad since I was a little kid, though. My stomach is still giving the suspicious side eye to the things I eat, but I am feeling better for the most part.

I'm so glad you have your apartment back! Boo for grading, though. Especially since they don't play X-files marathons on TNT all night anymore. It made an excellent grading accompaniment.

ah, but Netflix instant makes fantastic all-night grading company. I hate to think back to a time before Netflix.... grading was so lonely.

I'm pretty sure February sucks for everyone, every year. Dar Williams even has a song called February that is so depressing I refuse to listen to it ever again. I'm sorry yours has been so full of sick and misery.

In better news, it's March, and you're feeling healthy again! Hooray!

It's a pity your mom couldn't have predicted this so you could have bought a plane ticket when it was reasonable. And you like family time lots. Sorry you're missing it.

When's his 60th? My dad's 60th is March 8th. My sister and I bought him a "Richard Petty Experience"...he gets to drive a race car. Here's hoping he likes it. We got my mom a two day vacation on the beach and a facial, but she's much more predictable than my dad.

I'm sorry your February has been full of broken bones. :(

I knew something like this was going to happen. But my Mom still doesn't know what they are doing. They may still drive up to Orlando for the weekend. I earned a free airline ticket that I wanted to use up, but I would have had to schedule the flight much earlier.

His birthday is on the 4th. Amanda and I were going to get him a Nook, but my Uncle swooped in and bought one for him first. So yeah, still no idea. Well, I have a small silly thing (that he will love) but I wanted to get him something more. He is still insisting that he doesn't want anything, though.

Silly Uncle, stealing your thunder. I'm glad my family has a set policy on giving birthday presents to everyone every year (as joint parent/sibling efforts) and never giving other presents. It keeps things simple. I'm glad you've found something small he'll love, and I wish you and your siblings luck in figuring out what to do for him.

wow, a Richard Petty Experience and weekend at the beach? You guys are much better daughters than my sister and I are. This year I'm all like, "well, Mom, your Mother's Day present is that I'm letting you take me to Puerto Rico for spring break, and you even get to pay for the whole thing!"

I think getting to drive a race car would be pretty cool, and I'm in no way into cars. I can't see how your dad wouldn't enjoy it.
