Apparently, 30Gb Zunes everywhere have been bricking today due to a bug in the date handling. I was highly amused by this, until midnight rolled around and my phone crashed.
I've bought two Sansa SanDisk Clips, although they haven't arrived yet. I'm keen to avoid the Apple monopoly, but don't think approaching Microsoft helps things.
It's the black one, not the pink one. Oh, and they now support ogg, flac and ape, thus making them very well rounded. Not that I'm trying to advertise or anything.
Pah. I have a three or four year old Cowan X5 that does flac, ogg, mp3, mp4, aac, gapless playback, playlists and has a radio which it can record from. Not that I ever use that, mind!
I was interested in the Cowon models, but I read several reviews (particularly the anythingbutipod.com best of 2008), and the sansa clip seemed to be the one to go for. I haven't really been able to afford an mp3 player until recently, and most of my music is in Ogg Vorbis.
I spent the last year or so converting most of my CDs to mp3, since Jules got an mp3 only player a year ago, but I think I might go back to ogg again now. Encoding CDs is fun!
FWIW I have a Bayliss wind-up mp3-player (via http://www.itmustbegreen.co.uk/acatalog/Media_Players.html ) and am quite happy with it - mp3 and ogg formats (amongst others), records, even claims to play video. Not a thing of beauty, but certainly workable.
