i think they lay on their side, with their knees up. it's similar to how anal/rectal exams are done.
they insert swab, find cervix, swipe, etc.
unless they insert the speculum while on side.
i think that would be more comfortable, don't you?

That seems too much like fetal position and I'd rather not be curled up in horror while getting my lady bits examined.

well, i think i'd prefer curled up than splayed on my back. i know that gives them a good look at everything, but what if that isn't needed?
