Today: Finished proofreading page proofs.

Tomorrow: Meeting with new external chair about preparing tenure file; meeting with writing buddy, whose book was just accepted, to talk about revising process. If time: get back to work on Plutarch.

Stuff's happening. Slowly, but it's happening.

Careful work by me & my student assistant last semester => praise from my copyeditor and only 1.25 pp. of formatting queries on my bibliography => quick turnaround on my responses today. Go team ( Read more... )

Received my "normalized Word TS" to use in preparing my index. It's a monstrosity - 622 pages, almost unreadably ugly - but I take it on faith that the crazy things that have been done to the format in this version will all play their part in the typesetting process ( Read more... )

The press found a way to get my cover image for both hard cover and ebook for less, so we're back within budget. Apparently that was the last hurdle to moving my book into production (= copyediting, to begin with), so perhaps things will begin to happen at last.

Well-meaning people ask me what's going on with my book. Is it out yet? No?!? Then where is it, and what will happen every step of the way from here? I think I've finally hit the down slope toward Spring Break: no more lectures to write or give, Friday's exam already written, only 2 more classes to teach, 1 more meeting to attend. I can do it.

We've reached that point in the semester when - to borrow a metaphor - the charm of researching, writing, directing, and acting in 1-2 original one-act plays every day is starting to wear thin. I dug out from under my grading to find myself way behind on reading grad applications. Personal chores pile up, neglected. One week to Spring Break.
