I've just had someone email me asking me to send her one of my stories in pdf format so that she doesn't have to print out and can download it to her ereader.  To which I'm going, "Huh??"  To all the other writers out there, can I ask if a request like this is usual?  I've never run across it before and don't have a clue how to convert a Word ( Read more... )

Why can't she copy and paste and convert it herself? I wouldn't think she needs you to do that.

She may know as little about computers as I do. I'll tell her what you guys all say and then maybe she can. Thank you! I didn't know whether one was supposed to provide pdf service for someone.

I'm not sure how uncommon it is. I myself prefer pdf files when it comes to long fics and if the author doesn't offer it, I do it myself. In answer to your other question, all one needs is a free (and legitimate) plugin to save from a word to pdf format.

Thank you! I'll tell her. I don't use pdf, though I have read files in Adobe Reader. I'm not that computer knowledgeable and don't even have an ebook. I was completely fazed at the thought of having to create a file like that.

She can do it even easier - if she don't mind having banners and links in her "ebook".
There are sites in the Internet that let you convert a page.
Every printed page at TSR has the link that you can click (on every print chapter / print story site) and it converts a story into a .pdf one.
And your stories are normally not that long so the feature should work without problems.
Just send her to the Spuffy Realm. :)

I'm only a reader, I hadn't thought about asking a writer (especially if you can do it easy by yourself). Maybe she doesn't know?
(I saw that there are even Add-ons for Firefox that do that (even if I don't have it, can't say if it works good or not).
