The only thing I find pleasantly surprising was Mordred/Merlin scene at the end. I honestly didn't expect they would slash-bait in that direction too, not that I'm complaining. Actually hoping for more of that, if only for more glimpses of a dangerous, formidable Merlin we might be allowed to see.
I really want some kick-arse Merlin, too. We shall see how this season (series) goes. I am just mystified at the inane way TPTB write this. I often wonder what Bradley and Colin think when they read a script where their characters are made to be fools for the plot. *heavy sigh*.
I totally get your disappointment, I went through the same thing after Season 4 went to hell with "Lamia". I'm not expecting a reveal until the season finale, and that only because they said they were done with the show after Season 5. TPTB just don't have the guts to change the nature of Merlin's and Arthur's relationship; that's all that's behind it for me. Lack of courage from a fear to repell viewers. So they've been dragging on for years without giving these great characters and actors room to expand and grow and evolve. It hurts to think about it, so I try not to and enjoy what I can get from the show these days.
I agree. The funny thing is, though, that many a die-hard fan is speaking out about the lack of reveal or at the very least, a change in the status quo. They may end up losing viewers by NOT changing. However, as the filming is now over, I don't believe I'll be satisified with how this show ends. I really want to be wrong and I will continue to watch because my sister and I are having a great time discussing the show alone and with her kids. I said in another post that my 11 year old nephew remembered that Mordred has magic and wondered why Arthur didn't. That tells me a lot about what TPTB think of not only their adult audience, but the children in the audience. I love this show. It's part of the reason I get so worked up. I've never been involved in a fandom before so it's shocking to me how the runners of a show as big as Merlin has become continue to ignore the fans. Although, it seems the numbers continue to grow. That's why I was doubting my thoughts and wishes, until I saw the scathing comments on some of the formal
