The Death Song of Uther Pendragon

I anticipated enjoying this episode, and after the disaster that was ep2 (IMO), I was quite happy with this one.  The M/A was paced  well.  I enjoyed the serious/emotional conversations mixed with the banter (who doesn't right?).  Bradley and Colin did not disappoint.  You can see their relationship has matured.  Still silly, but it doesn't seem ( Read more... )

I was less than thrilled by the ep. So many things didn't make sense: Arthur using magic without any qualms, Uther actually hurting Arthur in spite of him having been shown as a loving father in S4, Arthur saying one thing about Gwen (about trusting her above all others) and doing the other (not trusting her) ... ugh. And the banter didn't work for me this time around. Maybe I have to watch the ep again, it always goes down a little easier the second time, but I pretty much hated the way the dialogues were written.

I did like the reveal though. I was actually quite bored with all the ghost hunting at this point, and this came as a nice surprise. Even though it didn't change anything, of course, but who's expecting that? :P

So yeah, maybe the episode will grow on me once I watch it again, but my first impression was disappointing. :(

ETA: LOL, and btw, I love you nephew's take on the show. Arthur already knowing about Merlin's magic is pretty much the only thing that makes sense at this point ... ;)

Oh, I'm sorry you weren't happy after the first watch. I was excited about this ep from the trailers and spoilers. One of my favorite eps is "Sins of the Father" from s2. I had a preconceived notion I would enjoy this ep solely because I love the Arthur/Merlin/Uther, and by extension Bradley/Colin/Anthony dynamic ( ... )

Well maybe this is just because of watching Supernatural, but really ghosts aren't their true self, they are only reflections of whom the person used to be. The living Uther might have hated what Arthur did with Camelot, but he would have had some pride in Arthur's achievements. It's just that his ghost self is locked in darker emotions.

As for the whole 'Arthur knows' thing, I believe that the actor playing Arthur has said in previous interviews that according to him, Arthur does know, and has known since s1
