Oh Mel!!!! He is beautiful! He has such a sweet face. I can't tell who I think he looks like... But he is soooooo gorgeous! Congratulations... I can't wait to see more pics and hear about how you are doing. I went through many of the same problems/emotions you're going through when I got home. Feel free to call me ANYTIME you need to vent/cry/whine or just chit chat. I'm always up, even though addy sleeps lol
I know, isn't he amazing?! Sometimes I just sit and stare at him. Thanks so much for offering me a shoulder to cry on...I can't wait to get these crazy hormones out of my system!
Totally made this mama of 2 boys CRY!!!!!! seriously - it just hit me that I'm gonna be in your shoes again in a few months!! EEK!!!!!!
Mel - he's beautiful. I wanna squish his little cheeks!!!!
You have my phone # right? 256.859.6180 - call me if you need to talk, honey - it's hard but I promise the hormones and such DO get better!!!! Remember me?? Eternal optimist, happy go lucky and yet I sobbed for a couple of weeks. It's such a huge hormonal thing!! You're ok!
As for the BF'ing issues - I've heard lots of views - the most common one says that if it doesn't bother you, it won't usually bother the baby - it's really just a trial and error thing. Bicycle his legs - massage his belly, put rice in an old sock, warm it to barely warm, place it between William's belly and your shoulder, etc. IF you wanted to, there's mylicon drops & i think gripe water...check those out. Do you have a carrier? That can help too, you know - ease your arms. I'm sorry for his circ issues - Ryan never had a problem at all.
Since you are breastfeeding..try feeding him when you are lying down and if you get comfortable with that can catch a little more sleep during the day or night. You just have to make sure you are in middle of bed and he can't roll anywhere. Even if you can't get fully asleep is pretty restful. I can't wait for more pictures...he is so cute!!!
i totally second this suggestion. it took me a while to figure it out after the c-section (i had been sleeping on a mountain of propped up pillows) but once i did life seemed so much easier.
I'm just so uncomfortable with putting him in a bed! I tried laying him down in bed next to me this morning after Ali went to work, but, even though we have a firm mattress, it just felt way too soft for a baby. It freaked me out, so I put him back in his basinette. I'd love to try to feed him side-lying, but there's no way I could sleep like that, I'd be too nervous.
You will figure it out. Your mommy instincts are kicking in. I could hear when Tasha woke up even a little in the middle of the night. I thought I would squish her. She was only 5 lbs when they let me bring her home.
Oh Good Lord, he is so cute!! I'm sorry that his circ was painful--no fun but it will heal in a few days.
Having a new baby is just soul-wrenching. In good ways and in really really difficult ways. Just be really patient with yourself--this is a learning experience for both you and Bear, and you *will* figure it out! We're all rooting for you! If you ever want to talk at all, and you're up in the middle of the night, give me a call!! My number is 818-631-9269 and I'm on Pacific time, so chances are I'll be awake. Take care of yourself hon!
How long did it take for Gabriel's circ to heal? It seems like Bear's is doing pretty well, and he doesn't cry when I change the dressing anymore. I'm waiting for the pediatrician's okay to stop gauzing it, though.
Thanks so much for offering your support. I'm sure I'll need all the help I can get!
Gabriel's was completely healed in 7 or 8 days, IIRC. Our pediatrician told us right away to NOT use gauze, just slather on the vaseline because the gauze would just rub up against the open area and irritate it. So we used tons of vaseline on it, which also protected it from pee, and it healed really fast and really well. It was totally healed way before his cord fell off at 2 weeks.
Huh. Well, I'm out of the gauze the hospital sent us home with, so instead of breaking out the extra gauze in the first aid kit, I guess I'll switch to just Vaseline. Today was day 4, and I read somewhere that it's supposed to take 3-4 days to heal, so I'm hoping tomorrow the ped will tell us he's all better.
Believe it or not, it looks like his cord stump is getting ready to fall off soon! I don't know if I did something wrong to it or something...he still doesn't like to have it touched, but it's kind of just hanging by a thread. Scary!
Oh, Mel!! I am literally in tears up here!! He's breathtakingly beautiful. I was thinking the other day about how many of us journal buddies from the CC days are now married and have kids...you, Manda, Amy, Lisa, Sarah...hopefully it will be me soon!

Bear hasn't so much had a "problem" with his circ, it just really hurt at the very beginning. It's much better already.
