A Sense of Accomplishment

Aug 12, 2010 02:20

So, I've been reading everyone's posts here about accomplishments and medicine vacations (currently on one from my Vyvanse and Strattera. I found they numbed me while I grieved for my mother's loss back in March), and I thought I would post about my latest accomplishment as I was able to do it free of my medicine and I am still shocked by the focus ( Read more... )

Congrats. It feels so good to get stuff in order. I'm in the process of packing, major headache, and moving back to the states. My boyfriend is a carpenter and building a house, putting in lots of organizational stuff for me, shelving and racks in the closet, drawer inserts in the bathroom and kitchen, extra shelving, etc, etc . . . He bought me a big ol' tanker of a desk like this: http://www.affinityofficefurniture.com/steelcase%20double%20ped%20desk.jpg which we're going to paint. I'm super excited about decorating my office, setting up a kitchen just how I like it. Fortunately I REALLY like this kind of thing, otherwise I'd be a mess in that department. Cleaning, OTOH.

Ah, Ikea. Giving people like us hope that we can get organized. At least for a little while. :-)

Accomplishments? Hmm. Finished a major project at work, for which I got no recognition (as expected), now on a rush deadline to finish some regulatory work for which I will get no recognition. Anyone noticing a pattern here?

At home, we're packing up to move into the city - I finally figured out that living out in the suburbs was costing us a mint, mainly due to the absolute necessity of owning a car out there. We move into the city, I sell the car, and suddenly I get almost a quarter of my net income back. It's like magic!

Oh yes. IKEA is a god send. Especially when you go to the store and they have detailed rooms showing you what can be done and lots of ways to get organized.

I wonder if the guy who founded it had ADHD...

Congratulations on finishing your room!!!
I think it's funny, how ADD/ADHD effects people so differently. Some ADD's have to have complete serene white/minimalist rooms to focus, while other ADD's have to have more colorful ('chaos' seeming to some). I like your room! fun fun!

I like to tell people I don't suffer from chaos - I'm more of a carrier. :-)

That's an interesting way of putting it.

or some of us are cursed with both - I love the serene minimal for some areas (bathroom, definitely - total zen) and for other parts, I so need colour.

Congrats on a tidy room - this looks great! I think about going into interior design because it just looks like so much fun, and I love playing with design and organizing. IKEA also has a Space Maker thing on their site - warning, too much fun.

I've also cleaned a few things in my office, and might post pictures. I've got lots to do, but having a 'healthy' environment really, really helps for me - dunno if it's an ADHD thing, but if I'm in a confortable room I start to feel better.

Oh god. I love IKEA. I want a huge Expedit so bad...

OFF TOPIC ENTIRELY BUT: My boyfriend and I were touring by bicycle last month on the Olympic Peninsula and went through Forks, and camped at Mora Beach just north of La Push.

Forks is depressing, and every store within fifty miles sells some kind of Twilight stuff.

The highway between Forks and La Push goes mostly through recovering clearcuts, and there's trash on the side of the road. While biking on that road, we were passed by FOUR Twilight tour buses. It's insane!!

And now, a picture for you:

I saw a picture of it online (at oddlyspecific.com) and busted up and told my boyfriend that if I saw it while we were on tour, I had to have a picture of myself next to it.

It's at a gas station/restaurant on the road junction between La Push and Rialto beach. They also had one of those "current fire danger" signs and changed it a "vampire danger" sign.

Awesome! I know how awful it can be to get a room decorated... lol. I like yours, though, it kind of reminds me of mine -- I have a lot of furniture that lines the walls.

oh, and I freaking LOVE true blood!! Have you been keeping up? The last episode was insane!

my accomplishment: getting a job! and I start school next week, too. And I might get an internship. So I'll be very productive this semester. Which is kind of an accomplishment itself.. right?
