Reflections and some fic

Is it just me or do birthdays feel more and more like any other day the higher the number gets? Special years like forty or fifty excepted, of course. I'm twenty-one as of Wednesday, but for all my mother's insistence that this is a highly important birthday, I don't feel it. Perhaps because many of the "landmarks" of such a birthday don't really ( Read more... )

I think it would be quite difficult to actually dislike Godric, heh. You'll probably enjoy the giant short story I'm nearly finished with ("An Afternoon Lesson"), in which Godric nearly manages to get himself killed without once leaving Hogwarts. Though to be fair, that wasn't entirely his fault. Maybe 40%. (10% belongs to Rowena, another 5% to Salazar. Actual numbers heavily disputed by the various founders, of course, except for the remaining 45%.)

Rowena has a rather prickly personality, so that's quite understandable. In a way, Rowena and Harry are complete opposites; Rowena likes order and logic, Harry embodies chaos and defies logic. :) I certainly don't expect everyone to like every founder. I know someone who can't stand Helga.

Glad you liked, and thanks!

Completely agree with you concerning alcohol. As for those gaming machines, I've never touched one, so I couldn't say.

Also I find that all celebrations have paled over the years. To the point that last year's Christmas was an unpleasant chore. I'm hoping that it was the stress from work and things will be better this year, though.

Love the cookie, though it raises a lot of questions and leaves me longing for more.

Interacting with a slot machine is mind-numbingly boring. Press button, hear annoying sound clip, listen to cheesy music, watch overly flashy graphics. Win or lose some money--usually lose--and then press the button all over again.... I have an aunt who has a gambling problem, so I may be somewhat biased, of course.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing happening with Christmas. It's no less fun, just not as special anymore. I'm still approaching it from the end of being the person who gets to enjoy the celebrations rather than be the one who cooks and sets it all up (though I always get roped into the crazed cleaning spree beforehand), so it's easier for me to enjoy. Until I gain a few more years and have to do the work myself, naturally.

I hope this Christmas is better for you too, and that work doesn't ramp up to ruin the holidays for you.

That was great! I loved seeing them interact together! Its so nice to see them from a different perspective! and now I wonder why the wards resisted! Why did they resist? Because he was from the future? Because he DOES happen to be a relative of Salazar? :P Because he's EVIIIIIILLLLL?!?!! ^,^ Thanks!

It's a myyyystery! *grins* Haha, because he's evil? I like that one. Rowena probably considers the very same explanation later.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Hey sweets, I didn't know it was your birthday! Happy 21st. I'm 21 too in December and I completely agree with you, in all your points concerning age, alcohol and gambling.

It is always lovely to read about the Founders and this tip-bit was no exception. I still love Godric, and the way he's determined to make Salazar smile.

I may be coming to New York for 4 nights just after Christmas. Are you far away from there? I would love to meet you and have a proper HP chat with a mug of hot chocolate…!

I have no idea how far away you are from there as America is even bigger than I imagined, but I thought I’d ask.

Hope you are well, and I look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Thanks! I now officially feel kind of old, hah. Twenty was just close enough to teen years, twenty-one is suddenly encroaching upon adulthood.

My school is in Boston, which is about five hours by train or bus to New York. Unfortunately, I'll be back home by then for winter holiday, in Nevada, which is approximately three days away from New York. But definitely, if you decide to visit the States again and are bound somewhere near either of my seasonal homes, let me know! It would be fun to meet.

I know what you mean by that, except that I was 35 at age 6 so the older I get the more I look like how old my soul is. Never mind though.

Damn and I was in Vegas in September as well. Typical. Except of course that you were probably in Boston by then.

I will definately be coming back to America, though I will be going twice this year which is pretty damn fantastic so I don't know when I'll be going back. I need a vocation so that your officials will allow me to live there. Just for a little while!

This is SUCH a welcome relief from the stress of applying for scholarships and universities. It's like, well, not a breath 'cause it's too long for that... how 'bout a 'blast' of fresh air? Does that work? haha ( ... )

Ouch, application season? *checks calendar* Yes, that's right, I remember. Good luck, hope it doesn't become too stressful. If you have any applications- or college-related questions, feel free to ask ( ... )

I just finished sealing the envelope of my first (finally) completed application. And I keep feeling like I've forgotten something... It's really not what I was expecting to feel finally being completely finished (you know, relief, giddiness.... but not worry!) Ah well, all I can do now is wait! Soon I'll have to start on my Canadian schools, they open for applications starting in November for the most part, so I kind of part feel like I'm falling behind in my applications to schools in the States (the one I was applying to will give me a $750 fee waiver if they get my application by the 26th of this month) and way ahead of all the schools in Canada. Anyway, I wasn't meaning to ramble on about that for quite so long... Oh, one semi question, if they say your personal statement must be at least 200 words, is 630ish too many? haha ( ... )
