As the hospital where I work seems to have hit the local headlines regarding the policy for "snow leave" I was just wondering, for those that had to stay home due to the snow..

I did a bit of work from home, but a lot of the work I'm doing I need to be onsite for and the nurses and doctors need to be in to do their work. They've all been forced to either make the time up, take annual leave if they have any left or unpaid leave. We were advised not to travel in unless necessary.

That second bit is the bit that really annoys me in these circumstances - "We were advised not to travel in unless necessary." If they advised you to do that I don't see how they can justify taking a day's leave from you!

Worked from home. Didn't actually do that much, but was available to work if there'd been anything to do.

They asked people to work from home, but I didn't have the required setup, so I couldn't.

As I'm a contractor, no work = no pay.

They did offer ambulance rides if you could make it to your local ambulance station. Otherwise it was annual leave or unpaid leave. Luckily, I made it in on the tube.
