Title: Ghosts
Pairings: MinKey, OnTae, (friendly) JongKey
Description: Where Minho and Jonghyun are ghosts, and Key’s younger vampire brother Taemin is in love with his best friend Onew.

Inside, the party was pounding and shaking the foundations of the house, and whatever, or whoever, else lay below that. Key tried to feel for Onew’s presence, a little trick he’d learnt from Jonghyun, but the house was too packed. It wasn’t until he heard a horrendous crash coming from one of the back rooms did he break out into a grin and locate his target.

As expected, Onew had toppled head first into a solid oak sofa, somehow shoving the 200 pound wooden frame into a cabinet of china. While the douche was slumped on the floor rubbing his throbbing head, Key swiftly manoeuvred his way through the wreck and grabbed him by the waist, lugging him away from the gathering crowd after flinging a few hundred dollar bills from his pocket onto the floor.

While the rest of the party was headed to the ruin, Key managed to discreetly slip out to the front porch, where he unceremoniously dumped the guy onto a wooden bench before flopping down next to him to catch his breath. The lawn was now deserted as the party moved inside to find the source of the painful crash, and Key stared off into nothingness while waiting for Onew to get his bearings.

Finally, Onew realized he wasn’t crouched in the middle of a wrecked room with half a dozen people ready to smash his face in the way he’d smashed the wall, and he turned his attention to Key. The latter too turned to look at him, and the two stared at each other in silence for what felt like an eternity, as the pounding of the party faded out in the background.

“Hmm. You’re not that interesting after all.” Key twisted his mouth to the side and puffed out his cheeks, turning back to the empty lawn. Onew drew back, confused.
“Why do I have to be interesting?” Key paused for a moment before replying.
“Because, you already are. Anyway -”
“Are you sure you should be out here with me? What if your…friend sees us?” Onew cut him off abruptly, and it took a second for Key to work out who his “friend” was.
“Taemin? Why wouldn’t he mind seeing us together? He knew I was looking for you anyway, and he’s probably more occupied with socialising.” Key shrugged, making furrows appear on Onew’s milky smooth forehead.

“He knew you were looking for me…and was okay with that?” Key turned to stare at the other guy, his mind working at high speed.
“Taemin’s my little brother; even if he wasn’t okay I’d have done it nonetheless.” Key laughed at the astonished look on Onew’s face, and finally everything clicked. “I’m not gay, and Taemin’s not my partner. Jeez, you thinking that is quite an insult.”
Finally Onew breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back on the bench, turning his face to the pitch black sky.

And so they talked, just sitting on that front porch, watching the wind rustle through the trees and ruffle the grass. People came and went, the music finally died down, and still they continued to talk. Key tried to probe into Onew’s past, but the guy wasn’t as soft as he seemed, retorting with his own variety of questions about Key that he couldn’t answer. Before they realised it, it was two in the morning.

A flushed and slurring Taemin stumbled out of the front door with a red haired girl leeching on him, making the duo turn and stare. Key thought her name was Blaze or something like that, and was about to make a snarky comment about her hair, until he noticed Onew watching the scene before him curiously. Blaze was whispering in Taemin’s ear and grinning, obviously heavily drunk and probably high on something, oblivious to the boy getting annoyed at her.

For a moment Taemin’s whole face seemed to darken and Onew could have sworn he heard a growl coming from that delicate body, raising goosebumps on his arms. But as fast as that change came onto the boy it disappeared again, as if a switch had just been flicked on and off again, and an self-satisfied expression spread across those flawless features. Out of the corner of his eye he caught Key’ expression too changing, from one of focus and disapproval to one of relief, before turning his attention back to Taemin. Cupping the girl’s face in one hand, Taemin leant up close, and stared deep into her eyes.

“You don’t want me going home with you tonight. You’re going to go home, alone, right now.” He breathed the words in her face, but somehow Onew could hear every word, hinted with that extra bit of persuasion that made his skin crawl. The girl seemed to crumple in his arms, and with a nod tottered off the porch and headed off back into the town without another word, as Onew watched in amazement. He then spun around to face Key, who already had his innocent expression prepared.

“How’d he do that?!” Onew demanded, pointing over his shoulder.
“Do what?” Key smiled coyly before waving Taemin over. “Taeminnie ah, come here before you walk into a pillar or something.” The boy staggered over, his cheeks once again flushed and his eyes half closed, a silly smile plastered on his face. But Onew could have sworn he saw him clear headed and charismatic just seconds ago…

Before he’d realized it, Key and Taemin were already at the end of the driveway, their sleek black car pulling up in front of them. As he did every morning, Key dumped the rambling boy into the back seat, but this time he turned around and called out to Onew.

“Are you coming or what?” Onew broke out into a grin and ran off the porch, tripping on the gravel walkway and rolling to a stop at Key’s feet. Wincing, he grinned innocuously up at the boy, who rolled his eyes and yanked Onew to his feet.

Inside the dark interior of the car, Onew somehow found himself wedged between a snoring Taemin and a rambling Key. He tried to pay attention to the boy’s intriguing story about their old town, but Onew couldn’t help but be distracted by the way Taemin’s skin seemed to glow in the dark interior of the car.

Nodding randomly at Key every few minutes, the elder continued to observe the sleeping boy. With his eyes, he traced from the boy’s gently fluttering eyelids down to his plush strawberry pink lips, swallowing hard. Onew slowly lowered his gaze past his sharp jawline to the faintly vibrating Adam’s apple, continuing down to the hollows formed by his collarbones.

Suddenly, the car went around a corner and Taemin’s head lolled, ending on Onew’s shoulder. He drew in a sharp breath, making Key pause and shoot a look at him. Onew continued to stare at Taemin, completely mesmerized, instinctively slowing his breathing to match the sleeping boy’s. Just as his attention was ensnared by the sliver of skin peeking out just above the waistband of Taemin’s hip hugging jeans, Key spoke.

“He’s beautiful, isn’t he?” Unconsciously, Onew nodded. Key smiled and bit his lip. Perhaps he should have offered to sit in front.

All too soon for Onew, the car smoothly pulled up in front of their apartment building, the driver getting out and opening the door for them. Key was about to lean over and wake Taemin up, but then since Onew was there, why bother? With a smirk, he motioned for Onew to carry the sleeping teen up to their flat, something the elder guy agreed to without a second thought.

As he effortlessly carried the weightless boy into the apartment, Onew took one look around and his jaw dropped. The whole place had been transformed from the first time he saw it, and looked more like a page out of “Home Living” magazine, than a cheap apartment in the edge of the city. Although their flats were exactly the same size, Key had made full use of every inch of space and made the rooms seem to stretch to twice the lengths.

Onew was so absorbed in gaping at the flat that Key had to walk right up to him and wave a hand in his face to get his attention. Gesturing silently, he pointed to the room in the corner, and mimicked putting Taemin to sleep. Onew nodded and moved towards the room.

The room itself was in the same corner as Onew’s in his own apartment, and even the position of the bed was identical. There was a desk with piles of textbooks neatly arranged, with a workbook lying abandoned under a mushroom table lamp, next to a tall oak cupboard that towered in the corner. Unlike Onew’s, the floor was completely bare save for a simple blue carpet, that the douche somehow still managed to trip over.

Gently, he sat down on the bed and untangled Taemin’s skinny arms from his neck, laying the boy out on the bed. Onew continued sitting on the bed, looking fondly at Taemin’s adorable face with his flushed cheeks. He expected Key to burst in at any moment, demanding to know what was taking him so long, but the doorway remained empty.

Onew didn’t know why, but he ached to reach over and stroke that smooth cheek, to brush away that fringe of hair, and to press a tender kiss to those lips. I must be really drunk, he thought, although he hadn’t even had a sip to drink at the party. Shaking his head to clear it, he got up to leave.

As he did so, two pale arms shot out and wrapped around his waist, making him freeze in mid-step. Suddenly, a voice mumbled from the bed, slurring and drowsy.
“Don’t go…” Just those words sent shivers down his spine, and the hair on the back of his neck stood. He wanted so badly to do exactly what the voice was asking him to, but it wasn’t right. Onew tried to move off again, but the arms tightened in a vice like grip and pulled him backwards onto the bed.

Once the elder guy was in his clutches, Taemin immediately wrapped his arms and legs around him, effectively trapping him. Onew gasped and flushed, trying to wriggle out of the hold, but Taemin held on and snuggled his face into the crook of his neck. The boy mumbled incomprehensibly, and his mere breath on Onew’s skin raised goosebumps and made his heart pound so loud he was sure Key could hear it in the next room.

As his cheeks burned and he contemplated the various possible deaths that Key would force him into, Onew found himself tiring and giving in to the warmth of the sleeping boy pressed up next to him. What am I getting myself into? Onew wondered as he finally gave in and fell asleep, still ensnared in Taemin’s clutches.
