Indeed. I still think that many of them are marketable when combined with certain other skills and background stories. At the moment, however, my Korean language ability is no more usefull (for example) than that of a Korean by birth who learned English. There are no shortage of those... The rarity of expending the effort to become bilingual is a one-way street.

I need to develop myself in other areas before I'll see any real benefit.

It's not you. This world is crazy. I've seen so many people I know with degrees and skills and what have you working jobs that don't use a quarter of their abilities, because it's all that's available at the time. On the plus side, it is always easier to step into another job if you're already working. This will be a stepping stone. Stepping stones are so irritating sometimes, because you know you could be moving along this path much faster. However, you don't always get to set the speed you move at.

(And at least the clothes are a lot better than Pennys. Pennys sucks. Bleh!)

I can't add much to that! That sums it up well.

Pennys has something in common with Men's Wearhouse; They both do the best with what they expect their customers to bring to the table. They are... realistic. I'll never forget the Army giving me a gift card to Pennys. It was for a recruiters (presumed) "first civillian suit", and when I looked at what they had in that context it really made sense.

MW takes it up a notch though, which is a good thing.

Stepping stones indeed. At least I hope so.

I will be around Saturday between 10 and 2 and all day Sunday ...I have a friend who is a Sargent and used to be in the department handling the back ground checks. She can give you practical advise, a personal tour, and a reference. You can also use me...we are not related by blood, just 'family of the heart' I am not sure what your physical restrictions may be at this time, but I can at least get you started in that direction if your ready...
your in my thoughts,
Lisa

Good points! I got your voicemail too. Today turned out to be bad- An SOS followed by a call-in to my security job (!) sort of blew my free day away.

Tommorow perhaps?

I'd love to get started with whatever help you can provide. Alternately it would be good just to hang out.

I've been in your shoes so don't stop trying! I worked for a company for 12yrs then got laid off and didn't know what to do with myself! I had a child to support with little or no financial help from anyone so it made it more difficult. I took alot of nothing jobs like you have now but also went to night school to learn new skills which helped me get the job I have now. Even after I did the school and all, it was still hard to get a job. I had to work as a volunteer for awhile till they hired me! So, just hang in there and find as many loop holes as you can to move into a better tomorrow! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Yes... I definitely count my blessings that I didn't have to make the choice (not that it would be a choice) between focusing on my own academic/spiritual/health/career advancement and caring for a child that depended on me.

Hugs!

Thank you!
