Todays Terrorist Scare

What a strange new feeling. As i was walking into my command, I get a phone call saying "Are you getting mobilized? The plane just hit the building in manhatten." Well .... that's all I needed for my heart to sink into my stomach. For an hour and a half they had no idea what was going on, only that there was a level 3 mobilization and to make sure ( Read more... )

my mom and i were just talking about that this afternoon. Not the plane b/c I actually didn't know anything about it till my student's sister mentioned it at 530pm today. But rather, the fact that cops have to live their lives differently. No matter what they say, there is a different mindset that they have to carry with them, that keeps them separate. b/c when tragedy happens it's not just happening around them, but happening on their watch, on their job. It's one thing to acknowledge that devastation is a part of life, but another entirely to realize that it's a part of your career path.

Yikes. I remember thinking when the first 9/11 plane hit "well, freak accidents do happen." Which was obviously the wrong conclusion. But it says something about where we are as a country when now the first thing we immediately think is 'holy crap, terrorists,' even if it isn't.

Hope you're doing well AScullyfluffle. *Hugs* Stay safe!

I know, tell me about it. We were talking about that in the locker room while watching it on tv. Had this been 6 years ago, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it. Now, I'm thinking .... "when will I be able to go home next?" I can't tell you how many phone calls I got, asking if i were there and what was going on. Turned out ... the next day, I ended up doing something called CRV (Critical Response Vehicle) which is based in determining and detering terrorist acts in Times Square. Had it been the day before, I would have been involved in the primary response team to the plane crash. Glad things work out the way they do, even if it wasn't a terrorist attack.

I saw it on the news too. J was getting annoyed cos I kept rewinding it to see if I recognised the building....in the ned he took the remote off me and told me to send you a message to see if you were ok...as soon as we realised it wasnt terrorists, I felt better.

Hope all is well and we get the chance to catch up soon. Im off to book the wedding, finally! So, fingers crossed it will be done and dusted by this weekend, if not, Im gonna get married in a barn or something.

You tell J ... *I* come first. And since you're 10 million miles away, you gotta get what news coverage you can get on my life. I also walked in the Columbus Day Parade if you happened to catch that on tv too.

You let me know dates as soon as you can. I'm thinking about taking 2 weeks off and going for like half a month. This way I can play there for some time and it's not all rush-rush wedding. I can't wait to be apart of your special day! (And to see Scotland, and wherever else you drag my italian ass) Even if it is in a barn.

So I'm fine. Thank you for loving me!
