Rukh lives!

So back in 2003, I played in a short-lived D&D 3rd Edition campaign. My character, Rukh Redmane, was a half-orc paladin, and I absolutely loved him. Basically, on the surface, he was a gruff but kindly knight-in-shining armor, trapped in this grim, fairly ugly exterior. Underneath, I imagined he had a raging storm always held in check due to his ( Read more... )

I feel your pain on the DM thing. I was always, always the goddamned DM because everybody liked the way I did it best. And I mean I guess it was a compliment but it was really irritating, I wanted to actually play.

Well, I *love* DMing. But I do like to play. I just wanted to connect with some more gamers in the area and get to tell my own character's stories.

I have no modesty on this subject...I am one of the best DMs I know, possibly *the* best DM I know. I'm a good writer, a good actor, a good improviser, a good world-builder...I have a great memory for storing obscure facts. I have good organizational skills. It's like...I was *born* to be a DM...if only I could make money from it. ;)

So the trouble is, I wish I could DM myself, because I run the kinds of games I would enjoy playing. There have only been two DMs I've met who've really engaged me 100%. I've enjoyed playing almost every game I've ever played, but the games with those two were campaigns I could've enjoyed playing forever. And, right now, I'm out of touch with one, and the other isn't DMing anything. So, I need to find another game and hope it's right up there with the best, or else just have a good time. :)

Interestingly, your post came up almost right next to a different friend's "D&D" post, where he theorized what a Player's Handbook would say about his furry species, if it was an allowed species of adventurer in the game ( ... )

Well, yes and no. My own D&D 3.5 game was a combination of standard D&D races and furry races. You can find details of it at http://www.bloopwatch.org/amanar I never bothered to stat out all of the furry species...I just did them as I tended to need them. If you want, I can finally stat out the Khanar, which are the big cat race in my game. Then you'll have my considered opinion on the subject. :)

Hey cool! I will check out what you've got online, and share it with my friend, if you don't mind? Who knows, we may decide to pursue something along these lines, and if so I'll probably ask to see fore details for what you've got in terms of furry species. :)

Thanks!

I don't mind at all. For specific furry race details, the link is at: http://www.bloopwatch.org/amanar/bayared.html I was basically filling in races as players asked about playing them, or when I was introducing a major NPC of the race.

The world the furries come from has two main continents, corresponding roughly to Medieval Europe and Pre-Columbian North America.

The races I specifically made detailed info for are:

Medieval Europe flavor
Arbori: Squirrels
Aven: Dogs
Brocken: Badgers
Bruinen: Bears
Galaenor: Mice
Harishi: Rabbits
Nilfinior: Foxes
Tinokai: Otters

Pre-Columbia America flavored
Atuki: Raccoons
Jisadu: Rabbits

The races I hadn't yet detailed were:
Fayej: Mustelids
Felriani: Domestic Cats
Grondir: Boars
Ibith: Goats/Sheep
Khanar: Great cats
Kossikar: Horses
Kyros: Bats
Mayoka: Shrews
Melileo: Skunks
Minotari: Cattle
Rattifari: Rats
Sylvanes: Elk/Deer
Wulfgar: Wolves

And the Pre-Columbian American ones
Amahe: Wolves
Manabozho: Coyotes

Whee! Enjoy 4th! I'm running an online campaign of it for friends at the moment and it's going beautifully so far. Have you run a game of 4th yourself yet?

Yes, actually. I've run a decent amount of it. I ran the Worldwide D&D Game Day events back in June, and I've run about half of Keep on the Shadowfell. I've also gotten to play a handful of games by being involved with the RPGA's Living Forgotten Realms. I may grab my players from Shadowfell and see if they want to switch to Living Forgotten Realms afterwards, because all of the adventures for LFR so far have been REALLY well written. Actually, I'm going to play some tonight. :) I have a halfling warlord, an eladrin fighter, a tiefling wizard, and a human rogue. :) I have no idea which ones I'll be playing tonight. Yay! :)
