So, Anna's plan for reconciling herself to an unexpectedly long sojourn in DC involves extensive redecorating. We've been living for the past several years under the presumption that we could pack up at any time, so we've somewhat left our apartment a bit below standards out of a hesitancy to throw money away on nice things that'll only be

A couple suggestions, that you've probably already tried, although I didn't see them specifically enumerated:
(1) remove the legs of the couch. They usually just unscrew, and will give about 4 inches extra clearance
(2) remove the door from the hinges. You said you pulled the frame, so I imagine you did this too, but maybe not.

If all else fails, you could rent a boomlift and put it in through a window, assuming you have: (a) a window facing the street that is large enough and (b) the desire to spend a shitload of money on a cool boomlift rental.

Yeah...removed the legs already (we knew we were gonna have to do that, based on measurements) and the windows weren't even a question, though we did give it serious reconsideration in the darkest hours.

How's the new job coming along by the way?
