Diagnosis.

This past year has been very difficult, especially during school. I have been constantly over-tired. No matter how much sleep I got, I never felt rested. That, plus being stressed about school, has caused me to be forgetful and irritable, as well as made it difficult to concentrate. If this has in any way affected any of you, I apologize. I ( Read more... )

Thank you, dear. I certainly hope I can get these meds, and the accomodations I am trying to get through school.

Well, they just need it to be preauthorized, which means I could wait up to two weeks to get the damned prescription. I think I will, though. I'm just kind of fed up with the waiting bit, that's all.

My friend Claire, who you met at the CC Club that one artic-cold evening, also has a sleeping disorder of some sort, .... except follow-up after follow-up, nobody has been able to correctly diagnose it yet. If she starts yawning, at least I know she's not bored with my company, but that I will need to take her home soonly.

so yeah, that sucks.

What are some of her symptoms?

One of the other things I suspected I could have was DSPS (delayed sleep phase syndrome), for which no test can detect. It is diagnosed by the sleep history of the patient, and basically means that, for whatever reason, the circadiam rhythm is reversed. There is a temporary condition like it but not considered the same, since the true disorder is chronic. Anwyay, I'm ranting . . . tell me what you know.

She has not discussed her symptoms in any detail. Sweetly, she just wanted to make certain I would not take it personally if she pooped-out when we were out someplace or whatever. Hmmm, I did take it that they had r/o Narcolepsy. I'll have to ask her about DSPS and stuff.

$300 Rx's = yikes! But yeah, "a squeeky wheel gets the grease." So nag anybody and everybody at your insurance company and don't take NO for an answer

well, i'm sure your sleep schedule will help a lot. i hope there are other non-medication avenues you can take as well. not that i'm knocking the pills, but if they prove to be too costly or have no generic equivalent, maybe there are some other things that can help. i will see if i can find anything in my books...

Well, the schedule itself has made no difference before, and I have tried many things over the years with no success. I am really relying on the effectiveness of medication. If it doesn't work, I really don't know what I will do.

He's told me that this will never go away, but at least it won't get any worse. I may just have to take medication for the rest of my life. I can accept that, if it works. :/

Hey, if you can find something I haven't already tried, I would be up for it. And, who better to look than a librarian. ;)

I'm glad they were finally able to find out what's up.

It's gonna suck ass that you won't be able to go out or stay up as late as you use to, but you're body and mind will feel much better.

Your bod' will thank you for it, too :-)

I could have died from *lack* of shock. I knew it had to be either DSPS or Narcolepsy, but you know doctors, they don't let you diagnose yourself. :P

Yeah, it certainly is a serious health issue. I am truly glad that someone was smart enough to listen to you and look into things a bit more.

And with the meds, it may take a bit of pushing and arguing, but most companies will give-in. I don't know who your provider is, but sometimes a direct call from the doctor will also push things through. If he/she is any kind of doctor, they'll do it for you.

And yes, sometimes doctors suck. I've been able to self-diagnose myself and KNOW FOR A FACT what was wrong with me, and they'll still look at me like I'm a hypochondriac or a moron.
