he was suffering. so much so, that any treatment would have stressed him too much to do any good.

his lungs failed, poor thing couldn't catch an ounce of breath.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know you wouldn't have done it unless you felt you had to...and his suffering is over now. I hate to see anyone, human or animal, in pain. :-(

I am so sorry. :( I have had many feline friends, all lived past 12. Nine is young. Goodnight to hobbes. If he was suffering, then you made a good decision.
