I don't know why you wouldn't I personally dislike the idea of human beings using an animal as a piece of art, but that's just me.

I'm curious to know your answer.

I invite you to guess again.

Honestly, its a pretty cruddy picture. I can hardly tell. Though I can't say I'm too pleased with the title either.

The title displeases you? What would you have titled it, then?

I suppose the fact that it's tacky isn't good enough?

Not in this case.

I take it you would not buy this particular piece?

A pity. I had arranged for it to be delivered to you for your birthday.

A shark in green Lucite or whatever? No. Never was much for art, though.

... I'm fairly sure you're kidding.

To me, it lacks proper symmetry.

agentlibre January 31 2008, 07:11:28 UTC
How exactly would you improve it, then?

chocosuicide January 31 2008, 07:13:57 UTC
I would have one less section on the tank. Crowded, maybe, but definitely more symmetrical.

Eliminating a section to the tank does not make it more symmetrical. The line of symmetry is currently invisible, is all; even then, the shark itself eliminates perfect symmetry.

Why would symmetry be important to you?

Ummmm . . . do you hate sharks? And why is the title so long and funny? It's a mouthful!

Not particularly.

I suppose Mr. Hirst could address that question, were he here.

You know, I'm sure there's some obscure metaphor there, but I just can't seem to place it.

All I know is that I don't think that's art.

agentlibre January 31 2008, 14:57:38 UTC
What do you consider art, then?

Reply

spaceflyboy January 31 2008, 18:24:46 UTC
I knew that question was coming.
Hard to describe, I'm not actually sure.

But I heard of someone putting like.. a tampon in a mug and calling it art.
It's not.. it's just dumb.

When confronted by something that appears inexplicable, what is your first impulse, to dismiss it, or to break it down thoroughly and reexamine it repeatedly to find an explanation?
