My first feminist rant!

Aug 15, 2006 18:05

I have finally become a woman. ^_^

I read the first few lines, and immediately resolved not to take him too seriously. Instead, I posted a fairly congenial comment. It's not the best feminist critique ever made (::cough!::) but it may pass.

I may be too nice. )

rant, feminism, politics, some wanker

Not the best comment? It was logical, to the point, and you didn't ramble.

You rock, and thank you for seeing that and making a comment :D

Really? :) It wasn't full of hyperlinks, like real political bloggers, heh. But I'm glad you liked it. Go me! ^_^

Hey Rose! It’s your Women's Director S-I-L! Defiantly a good rant. And I'd have to say point well stated. I'm going to join you if you don't mind ( ... )

:D Thank you for your additions! Always appreciated.

You know in Canada, women make an average of only $0.60 on the dollar a man makes for the same job w/ the same experience.

O_O I didn't know that. That's frackin' criminal. Aren't we the progressive ones?

He said simply, "as a white, strait, man I don't feel oppressed. That is not the case for those who have been oppressed in history."

Exactly! I was going to say to this fellow (but couldn't find a place to fit it in), "The reason there isn't a 'men's studies' section at the bookstore is that every other section in the store is 'men's studies'."

Girls not older than ten or twelve wearing belly tops and skimpy skirts that barley cover their bits.

It really is sick. x_x Really. There is no other word for it.

Oh, sorry! :) I didn't mean to downplay girls who really are interested in fashion. I think this guy would be surprised to know that those women are capable of deeper thought.... =)

I didn't think you were down playing those actually interested in fashion. Its true that the little teeny boppers and teens who are all about fashion generally don't have much other than boys on their mind (an over generalisation I know). You can still be interested in fashion and have a brain, this much is true. I think that sometimes those women who feel that fashion and men are two of best ways to validate themselves turn their brains off.

Okay, good. :) I got across what I was trying for, then.

They try to turn their brains off, anyway. I have a friend who acts like a ditzy blonde because she knows it's what people expect, but she comes home and talks to me for hours on MSN and she's actually brilliant, and she likes me because she doesn't have to be stupid around me. It's interesting; I'm glad I can do that for her.
