Boys don't make passes...

Someone stole my bike! I left it locked outside for an hour, and when I went back to retrieve it it was gone! If anyone in Montreal sees someone around on a blue cruiser with reflective hearts all over it, please PUNCH THAT PERSON IN THE THROAT! This sucks. Someone please take me bike shopping in the morning, because even though it was in rough ( Read more... )

Besides of anger and saddness on both accounts, I wonder where all that evil comes from... :-(
Especially in that advertisment.

I know! I just don't get why that ad exists. I think I will go talk to the manager of the store about it, maybe.

Ah, don't. You'll just get upset and they just won't care. Unless you're feeling very confident and vengefull and will feel better after giving them a piece of your mind.

Teri, yes! That was exactly the feeling- how can it be gone already when it was just here? Bike theives are total jerks.

That sign is just so absurd I have to laugh at it. Who the hell would buy into it?

So sorry to hear about the bike :( Having someone steal something you rely on like that is the worst feeling ever.

I don't think most people viewing that ad are going to be all, "damn, these glasses ARE EXACTLY WHAT'S STIFLING MY SEX LIFE! Spectacled no more!". But! I do think that among people who already have those insecurities, it can really strike a chord. And I mean, among teenagers there's already so much pressure to make yourself desirable that it's pretty easy to exploit. If someone is already incredibly insecure about being "nerdy" and is getting a hundred messages a day about how that's bad and will make them die loveless and alone, it's not entirely unlikely that they would buy into it.

Or at least I think that as a bespectacled 15 year old who never went on dates and was good at math and talked a lot about loving Noam Chomsky, I might have bought into it.

I dunno - I've always been dumber than a box of rocks (despite the fact that people thought I was smart) and ugly as sin so that I'd never be able to go out on a date, glasses or no so at that age - I'd probably have laughed at it too. I just can't even believe that thing is real because its just so silly...

Thanks for your long distance sympathy and anger. That helps! I kinda think the world would be a better place if we all thought like Nietzsche and went around proclaiming how clever and great we are. He had such healthy self-esteem! And glasses!

I am doubtful about finding the old bike, but I have hope that I will track down a nice new (to me) one!
