01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter
02. Your favorite book
Yeah, so, I know I'm in the minority, but I really like OotP (but now I know there are at least two more of you out there who like it, too, thanks to this meme!). For the longest time, I'd have called it my absolute favorite, hands down, but then there was DH... I don't think DH edges

OoTP was when I actually started to like Harry as a character. Before he actually bored me a little, but in OoTP he grabbed my attention. (Although re-reading the books, young!Harry really is adorable. I want to adopt him. But when I was only a few years older I had a different perception.) And sure, he got a bit obnoxious, but my thing is... the hero has to be the one who makes the hard decisions and says things that need to be said.
And Neville. So. Much. Love for Neville. The gum-wrapper scene still makes me tear up.
Me too. I think I like his character development best, and I'd love for someone to write a fic with the books in his POV. (I'd volunteer, but that would be a really, really hard project... but someone should do it. And finish it.)

I liked Harry before OotP, but I really felt more connected to him after I read that one, as opposed to the first four...although the feeling probably started in GoF, now that I really think about it. And it's not like I identified with his anger or anything. I think his anger just made him more real to me--like, he was a book character that I liked before, but once he got angry, I felt like I knew him more. Or something. Not sure I can explain it, actually. :P
The other thing about OotP for me was Ginny. She really started to shine for me in this book. OotP is the book that made me a H/G shipper, before I even knew what shipping was.

Same here. I was in fandom before OoTP, so I'd seen H/G, but to me it was something a lot of R/Hr shippers wrote, and often they made it work so I read it for those reasons. I hadn't been convinced that it'd be canon, though, but OoTP did convince me.

OoTP didn't really become my favourite straight away from the first reading. I guess losing Sirius kind of affected me a bit. But rereading it again makes OoTP one of my favourites. All the reasons you give are what I like about OoTP too. :)
