My theory (since I think Daniel is an okay guy, but easily swayed, so I'm biased) is that Daniel sees this whole thing as mom's side vs. dad's side, and when he found out V had him beat up to obtain his release, he decided he would go all the way to dad's side in revenge. REVENGE. (Seriously, one of the things I like best about the show is the way it shows how revenge motivates so many of these characters in so many ways).
Nolan was amazing here too. And i like Carol too :)
You know, that sounds about right for Daniel. Although he has said he doesn't like his family, he's never really been able to disentangle himself -- he just goes back and forth.
I just got done watching, and hot shit DAMN, yes. I can't wait for the finale. I kept wanting to wag my finger at the tv screen the whole time, yelling "FIIIIERRCE!"
I know, I can't wait for next Wednesday SOOO badly!
and I actually love what they did for Daniel. I agree with daria234 that his motivation is revenge against his mother for what he sees as tearing his family apart. But that means siding with his (even more evil) father and all the cognitive dissonance that entails. But once he has devoted himself to his father's side, he needs to keep going with it and convincing himself he made the right decision.
And now it makes it easy for Emily to take him down, too.
Also, I'm sorry, I know the rest of the fandom disagrees, but I love the Emily/Jack in this episode. mmm. Emily having something to live for and tether her to, well, her humanity! I love it. LOVE IT.
My boyfriend watched just this episode with me, and decided that the Initiative has to kill Nolan so that Emily has something to seek revenge for NEXT season :/ I disagreed.
That all makes sense about Daniel. I think I am partially sad because if he really has gone fully to Conrad's side after everything he now knows, it DOES make it easier for Emily, and I liked him as a moral obstacle.
Emily having something to live for and tether her to, well, her humanity! I love it. LOVE IT. Aww. I totally get that. I actually like that roll he plays for her, too. I just don't actually ship it. But he needs to be there, and her feelings for him are important.

I'm actually starting to feel Emily/Jack as well! Before this I didn't really ship her with anyone, honestly.
