I just had a call from some woman phoning off a mobile phone, and asking to speak with me. Said she was from some debt recovery agency, and then asked for my full name, D.O.B and post code for "security purposes ( Read more... )

You did the right thing - never give out details like that over the phone unless you ring them! To put your mind at rest check your finances and make sure you don't owe anything that you are currently not paying.

Done! Can't find anything, and that's with a six year run back through Experian as well. If it is something, it's a piffling amount and old.

I think it's weasels. Weasels after my gold. They can write to me otherwise and declare who, when, and how much.

Completely right. Tell them to write you a letter if they call again.

Scammer avoided IMO!

No way would any company call from a mobile phone when trying to confirm secure details.

Sadly, they probably would. I would still tell them to fuck off, though - this whole "I call you and ask you to confirm stuff" shit is awful security and just trains people to fall for scammers doing the same.

Ugh, I hate that. I once had a call from my credit card company with lots of security questions: I went along with it but they said I had my address wrong! Turned out it was because I didn't specify I lived in the upstairs flat of my house number. It took about ten minutes to work that one out, and all just so they could ask me for money.

Sounds a bit like a scam to me. Where they are calling from shouldn't be confidential. If the debt collection agency wants money from you they will definately send a letter demanding the money. You would know by now.

We get letters from debt collection companies a lot for people who have never even lived at our house! They are always really nice when I call them to say they have been given the wrong address.
