Grey's Canon Going AU?

Most of us have been writing it or reading it for years under the creative guise (read: cesspool of denial) that is fanfiction, refusing to let our ships/characters/'what was meant to be' die. Come February 2012, could Shonda be giving us the chance of a lifetime? According to Ausiello, Grey's is going AU for an episode.

I wonder what even gave them this idea? Perhaps the writers troll the internet. I'm curious as to what angle they're going to take. I'm taking a wild guess at fate v.s free will but who knows. All I know is this ep is generating a lot of conversation/freaking out without any promos! Am I bad for liking Mer/Mark?

I wondered the same thing. Maybe they read fanfiction as well. In the end, they might find a way to make everyone hate it, or it may actually be a dream sequence from Meredith's point of view or something. You're right, people will freak out.

And no, you're not bad for liking Mer/Mark - it was considered a long time ago by a lot of people. I think those are two characters that can be compared; in a way they both grew up.

People will always freak out when grey's goes out on a creative limb - and when they don't! Surely they must know this by now, especially as a few of them have twitter. I do kinda admire them for just trying new things out, though.

M/M definitely had potential (in an alternate universe, ooo) - well, any ship does in the hands of fans! - I feel that they would have understood each others' scars (I think they do in this universe, actually) and the ways in which they're not so sure how to go about this whole relationship thing. They would have given each other time, shown each other the affection they never had growing up (you're right.) I think Mer genuinely likes Mark and Mark has shown that he cares for her. When Derek told him she'd been fired, he looked so concerned. Ahhh, the fan imagination!

eta : I AM a ferryboat shipper. My imagination just runs away hehe.
